POV: Elena I used to think the most powerful sound in the world was the roar of a jet engine or the thunderous crack of Silas’s Alpha fire. I was wrong. The most powerful sound in the world is the silence of a boardroom after the monsters have all been cleared out.

I am leaving it with everything I am owed. Sixteen words. Three years of silence had given those sixteen words a weight that a thousand casual sentences never could have managed. She filed that away. Silence, she had learned, was not merely the absence of noise. It was compression. Everything unsaid building pressure behind a single, chosen moment. Dawn found her at the edge of a shallow valley. Below, a dirt road cut east to west unpaved, unmarked, the kind that didn't appear on official territory maps because it predated most of the current pack boundaries by a generation or more.

**Silas pov** There was a specific kind of silence that belonged only to the North. Gianni whispered as she got off stage ready to walk back to her room and wait with the man that was keeping her but he was no longer there. " Gianni " She whispered, her lips trembling as she sprinted towards her brother and hugging him so tight not ready to let go. Gianni pulled away placing his leather jacket to cover her skimpy dress then carried her in his arms bridal style. It was the only way for her not to see the dead bodies they had created. "Let's move, there's movement down the hall " Piper checked the Silencer of her gun as they started to head over towards the back door.

If I stay here and watch him, waiting for him to make a move, he will still kill me. Right now, I have no option. “I don't understand,” I breathe, my voice raspy, tangling in with the sound of the rain outside. “Why do this?” I'm not sure what I'm wanting out of this conversation. There is no way he's going to talk back to me, since he’s a Silent, trained to never open his mouth to anyone. He would rather die for his cause then even acknowledge me for a second. At this point, I'm just buying time, while my mind clambers to think of a way to get out of this.

“I am sorry, I was just trying to keep you from murdering someone in public.” His expression shifted - dark, unreadable. His eyes trailed across my face, lingering on my lips. Then his hand reached up, fingertips grazing my cheek. He always wore the same damn expression. Blank, unmoved, like nothing in this world could touch him. But somehow, in the silence and the stillness, he made sure I and everyone else felt it all - the cold, the control, the darkness wrapped beneath his skin.
