“Realm integrity at critical failure.” The ground beneath us split completely. A shockwave tore outward. Kaden grabbed me and Kael at the same time, hauling us against his massive chest as the stone gave way. We fell. Again. But this time the fall felt different. Not ripping. Not violent. Controlled. The light wrapped around us like a cocoon, warm and humming, cushioning the descent. I squeezed my eyes shut, pressing my face into Kaden’s fur, Kael’s hand still locked tightly around mine.

As we went down, my hand fumbled with my phone. “Dude..” Axel looked concerned. Finally, we touched down. It took me a couple of tries but I was able to get the door open but my legs gave out and I fell to the ground. “WAYLON!” Jessica yelled as she ran forward.

I couldn't keep back the scream as I fell. Sapphire was all I could think of as the space stretched beneath us. How could I break her fall? What was Elira thinking, leading us through a route this dangerous? For goodness’ sake, we could all die in the process. ​We landed with a thud on... well, not hard earth. ​“Ow,” I whimpered, rolling over to break my fall.
