the first scout laughed softly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Orders are orders," the second scout grumbled, turning his head away for just a second, and that was all the opening I needed. I lunged forward out of the dark, wrapping my left arm around the lead scout's neck while driving my hand over his mouth to cut off any sound, and I drove my dagger upward with my right hand, dropping him instantly before he could even struggle against my grip. The second scout started to turn around, but Marcus and the rest of the vanguard unit rushed down the alley from behind me, tackling him and the third guard to the ground before they could draw their weapons or shout a warning.

kay, so he gets points for having more skill than I would give a hunter credit. I always figured hunters used whatever bits of magic they picked up to hunt us down and find new inventive ways to kill us. Though I suppose being able to disguise themselves as well as Khalid’s Clark Kent glasses would help them better infiltrate and make stealth kills if their target could recognize them.

The first scout doesn't see me coming. I hit him from the side and we go down in a tangle of limbs and mud. My claws find his throat before he can scream. The second scout shifts and comes at me head-on, jaws wide and snarling. I meet him halfway.

"Someone is spectating me? That's strange. Oh well, as long as he isn't feeding information to my opponents, I don't care." A barrage of laser fire shot from a cloud. Some of the beams scorched TheSeventhSnake's armor, thankfully not damaging anything essential. "I'm under fire by their air scout! Engaging! Tops, keep searching for their heavies, don't let this distraction fool you!" Triceratopssss nodded as his Phantasm kept combing the surrounding area. "Roger that, pal." "My ground-to-air missiles are ready to fire." The missileer interrupted. "Maintain contact and feed your target lock to me."

"That's Khleassandra. She is the Long Range Shooter of the family. What she used was an M16 Rifle also known as an AR-15." My eyes widened as I caught my rest. I didn't understand what he was saying because my life was more important to me. "I don't want to! Please! I don't want to play with you guys!" I struggled as I said that. "Let me go! Please!" Before I could fully recover, the tangerine on my shoulder was suddenly destroyed. The juice splashed on my face. I felt and heard something close to my ear. "And that is Allison. She is our Sniper. She used a Remington M24 SWS."

They were just the spark. Rayne crossed the room slowly. Each footstep deliberate. Deadly. The tallest scout raised his head, grinning despite his swollen lip. “Back for another round, princess?” She didn’t answer. His grin widened. “You smell like a woman scorned. Did your Alpha lover finally come to his senses?” Garran took a step forward. “Alpha, don’t—” But it was too late. Rayne moved faster than any of them anticipated. In one swift movement, she drew the dagger from her side and plunged it straight into the scout’s throat. A sickening gurgle escaped him as blood sprayed across the stone floor.

He shakes his head somberly, looking again at our dead human, “but if they want to talk to me or my patrols, we’re happy to help. Just let me know.” “Will do. Before you head back to your packhouse, have Tasha and Channing take you to where the scents are the strongest so you can get the smell for yourself.” I say nodding to my two top trackers. “They’d be happy to show your own trackers where the scents are too.” “That’s great, thank you, Alpha.” He turns to Tasha and Channing, “Lead the way!” As the three of them begin walking off, he looks back over his shoulder, “see you in a few hours, Alpha Scarlett. And thanks again.”

I commanded coldly, checking the ammunition clip of my rifle with a loud, metallic snap. "Sir, Nico says they came through the thick tree line by the creek," Sean said, his hands quickly applying pressure to the boy’s bleeding shoulder. "They avoided the main road cameras completely. They are using suppressed rifles. It’s a targeted hit squad. Probably ten to twelve men from the old Cruz faction who didn't surrender after the safeties were emptied."
