"I think you might be a closet pyro," Andy chuckled as he joined us, his eyes fixed on the mesmerizing sight of the flames devouring everything in their path. "I've always had a fascination with fire," I admitted, a small smile tugging at my lips. "I was just stopping by to update you on the pack. Everyone's settled in and currently enjoying their own fires in the fields. There are a few boars roasting over them too," Andy informed us. "Oh goddess, I completely forgot about the roast," I exclaimed, feeling a pang of guilt.

He handed me my glass with a smile as the two of us made our way out to the fire pit. It was a very nice set up. The fire pit was a gas pit made up of what looked like marble bricks, and the orange flames danced beautifully across black, glass-like stones that coated and piled up across the the bottom. The outdoor furniture around it was cozy, consisting of tan, cushioned couches and arm chairs that surrounded the area in it's entirety. As I settled in, sipping on my perfectly proportioned margarita, I almost forgot that my life was currently in shambles. "So, what do you think?" Ryan asked, sitting beside me on the couch.

"What is it?" Eva motioned for everyone's attention, and the pack members gathered around a designated area. A hush fell over the crowd as they watched in anticipation. Suddenly, flames erupted, dancing and twirling in mesmerizing patterns. A chorus of gasps and applause filled the air as the pack witnessed the breathtaking display of fire manipulation. Skilled members of the pack, known as the Pyrokinetics, had choreographed a spellbinding performance. Their control over fire created stunning shapes and figures, illuminating the night with flickering lights and radiant warmth.

he muttered looking into the wood and rearranging some logs pointlessly. “We're the masters at fire building, it'll light” Alissa blew on his embers for him, small flames licked at the dried birch fungus. He slowly pushed the now burning ball into the centre of the bonfire with a stick as Alissa lit another fire starter made up of birch fungus, dried sawdust and pine needles.

“So, let's call ‘em back home.” With that, Xavier struck a matchstick and tossed it into the firepit, catching what little remained of the previous fire alight. Picking up a nearby block of firewood, Xavier tossed that into the pit, too. Pretty soon, the fire stoked high enough for flames to reach a few feet above the walls of the pit. Thick plumes of smoke rose high above the tree line above. It wouldn’t be long until the previous denizens of this campsite noticed the smoke and realized where it was coming from.

And there—at the very heart of it—was the fire pit. It wasn’t grand or ceremonial or even ornate. It was just iron. Heavy. Uncompromising. A wide circular basin of blackened metal, choked with coals that glowed like opened veins. The heat from them pulsed in the air, quiet and steady, the way a predator might breathe while waiting to strike. I could see the shimmer of it—the faint wavering distortion of heat above the pit—and with it came the acrid sting of smoke and singed wood.

She was all but relying on Jay to keep her in a forward momentum. It shouldn’t have surprised her that the fire pit remained exactly where it had been. It was also evident that some of the kids from town decided that it was going to be their new hang out spot. Beer cans and tree carvings were visible in the surrounding areas. Myra nodded at the fire and Doug threw some wood and dry pine in the pile sending ash in to the air. Jess coughed and waved the ash out of her face. Myra bent over and lite the pile speaking yet again in a language she couldn’t understand.

The Beta forces are already on the move, using flame throwers – of all ridiculous things – to clear out the snow from around the fire pit, off the cabin porches. “Is this for real?” I ask Victor, gesturing towards the long tongues of flame licking around the campground, melting the snow away like cotton candy in water. “What,” Victor says, frowning and looking around. “What’s wrong?” “Don’t you think it’s a bit much?” I say, gesturing towards the flames. “Couldn’t you just have given them shovels?”
