Summer Reads Novels & Stories

LANA Summer seriously is the best time of the year, in my opinion at least. I mean, what is there not to love? Sitting in the sun on a deck-chair, soaking up the sun with a cola in one hand and a book in the other... sheer bliss. Drip! Drip! Drip! I shrieked and launched myself at my oldest brother who had just ruined my perfect morning of tanning, the jerk! "Daniel! You're such a freak!" I growled in frustration, wiping away the water he had dripped all over me before sitting back down.

Summer was bold about a lot of things- there was nothing she held back on and she made sure that she made me know that i was worth everything. “She’s right.” Adam agreed while putting his phone away. Our wine came and so did our food, we talked while we ate. Adam telling us of how much he got to do now he had achieved his goals for the quarter, Summer on the other hand talked about how her dad wanted her to come spend a month with him down in europe. “That doesnt sound so bad love, you should consider-” Adam said and Summer glared at him making me laugh. “I mean it would make your father think i’m not trying to steal you away.” Adam added.

I enjoyed Eastern Springs Campout but after listening to everyone recount their summer experiences, I really hoped no one would ask me what I did over the summer. Britney was so excited about her delightful summer, partying and training with the cheerleaders. They are finally going to let her perform with them at the games. On one hand, I'm happy for her. On the other, I'm kinda mad she was MIA all summer. She just laughed it off.

CALLA This summer felt like a movie. Sun on my skin, water in my hair. Late night swims in the lake behind the summer house while our parents drank wine on the deck, and Miles cannon balled into the water drenching me completely. I splashed back at him, laughing, but his grin was infuriating. He moves like he is always on the ice, fast, deliberate, and impossible to catch off guard. We have done summers together since kindergarten. Our families vacation every year like it’s tradition. Same place, same inside jokes, same two families tangled together as if fate had it planned. But this year was different. Miles looked at me differently after what felt like forever.

Summer replied she brought out her phone and showed me a video of her trying to wake me up but I kept mumbling words that were incoherent. We both laughed and I went to the bathroom to freshen up,when I came out, summer was not in the room, I got dressed quickly and joined her in the living room , we rushed through breakfast and dashed out the door , it's just drizzling now. Summer has a Toyota Camry so, she drove us to school. Summer was a final year student studying Business and she will graduate in 2 months time, I still had 2 more years to go, before graduation We arrived at the University by 8:56am, I quickly went for my class, luckily I made it in, just before Mr Adam our Neuroanatomy

She's already there, handling his skates. "He is Coach Schmidt. He coaches junior skaters in summer" Everly whispered. "I was informed of a Summer Camp and summer, I don't know how it'll work for you, but you might be included." "A Summer Camp?" "Hm. I heard he rarely takes a foreign skater. If he does, then maybe they are exceptional," she added. "Go and stretch on the side, try to relax your muscles more." It is not a competition nor a local ice show, but the thought of a professional criticizing his every move sounds challenging. He had experienced harsh critiques in ballet, from his novice days till he could perform and hold a role in theater.

“Old women here still call it by name. Tidewalker. They say it remembers blood. And it remembers when to come back.” A gust of hot wind rolled through the parking lot, carrying the smell of the ocean. Even a mile inland, it stung like salt. Jake swallowed. “And it’s a heatwave this week.” Sarah didn’t answer. She didn’t need to. The forecast on his phone said 98°F by Thursday. Across the lot, the cove glimmered under the sun. Too still. Too quiet. Suddenly there was an outburst, a good number of students hurrying out of school, all of them moving in one direction toward the lower fields. Voices overlapped — half questions, half panic.

As his plan was exposed, James said helplessly, "Summie, you have grown smarter." "That's right! Wait, no ... I've always been smart. Anyway, did you hear me? You are not allowed to send anyone to follow me," Summer said resolutely. "I understand. I won't." Now that the matter was settled, Summer successfully retrieved her freedom. It was just in time to meet her high school best friend whom she hadn't seen in a year. She had missed her dearly, and now, she was ready to take a taxi to her date.
