“Congratulations to you both.” “Good.” The Alpha nodded. “Now off you go.” He really didn't see me as anything. The thought made me mourn for myself and my unborn baby. At that moment, his Beta strode into the room. His expression was grave and when our eyes met, he gave me a look filled with great mistrust. I found this difficult to understand. His usual way was ignoring my existence, what could I have done to him? The sorrow I felt was so overwhelming that I couldn't bring myself to figure out what was up with him. I hurried out of their sights as Alpha Damian began questioning Beta Karl, carrying my broken heart with me.

I knew Travis was the Beta, which apparantly gave him more power than this wolf I had not yet met, so he immediately began to beg. "Beta Travis! Please!" He tried to squirm out of his hold, but it wasn't happening. Travis was too furious. "She is my mate! I have just found her! Please, I meant no disrespect to her!" Travis dropped him harshly on the ground, then pointed at Sage. "This is your mate?" He turned his glare on Sage who just bowed her head like she had suddenly learned her place. "This woman has caused more damage to my mate than you will ever realize! If she was not your mate, I would kill her where she stands!"

I gasp as I feel his tongue lick over my skin again, nipping, sucking softly, but possessively. He slowly moves his hand up until he reaches my neck, caressing my collarbone. I can't help but let out a small moan, closing my eyes as I tilt my head back, bucking my thighs to suppress the feeling between my legs. "Please, Eli... I can't do this. Y—You're my beta. And- best friend to my brothers. What will they say when they find—"

‘I won’t become like him or you. ‘So you say.’ A bubbly giggle erupted in my mind as Aldina pulled away and licked her lips. "We need to get going. I’m sure Kelvin is beginning to grow impatient. " Nodding, I got off the ground and wiped the drops of blood that were left behind on my neck. Once I checked in with Kelvin, I would be able to go and check in with Haidan as well. I needed to tell her that I was resigning as beta for the pack and would leave here for good. I probably should have done that at first, but there was only one thing on my mind as soon as I reached town.

The lantern flame flickered faintly, throwing shadows across the walls, and in those shadows I saw the shape of my choices—cowardice, regret, longing. I wanted to scream. “Why can’t I just say it? Why can’t I just tell him?” I muttered under my breath, my voice breaking. The Beta’s warning hung heavy in the air, as if his presence still lingered in the corners of my room. The sharpness in his tone, the steel in his eyes—it was enough to convince me that his threat was not empty. He would not hesitate to make my life miserable if I stepped out of line. And yet… wasn’t I already miserable?

My eyes burned, but I refused to let the tears fall. "You knew." Caden finally looked at me. And in that moment, I saw something I had never seen before. Regret. Not the regret of someone caught. The regret of someone who had carried the burden too long. But I wasn't ready to forgive him. Not yet. "Tell me the truth," I demanded. The silence stretched. Then Caden slowly opened his mouth. But before he could speak, the entire room seemed to change. A strange pressure filled the air. Valthera immediately looked toward the ancient scroll on the desk.
