SANDRA'S POV The mattress under me was damp and I thought at first it was sweat, my whole body soaked through with it, fever burning under my skin so hot I could hear my own pulse in my ears. Then the cramp hit sharp, twisting through me like a fist closing around something it had no business touching. I jumped up as fast as I could and the room tilted. "No," I said. "No, no, please." I looked down at the floor and there was blood. Dark and spreading across the sheet beneath me, more than I'd ever seen come out of my own body at once.

Or was it the fear of what was coming after? “Fucking bastards!” Rain heard Aldo spit out. She’d never heard his voice sounding so hostile before. Her lids twitched and she willed herself to open her eyes...She felt the glass particles touch her pupils and probably scratch them, she but down a hiss of pain and tried to take in her surroundings with teary eyes. Aldo was put in a kneeling position with two men holding him up. His shirt was covered with a large patch of red, definitely his blood...He must’ve been seriously hurt as well!

I reached into my pants pocket, my fingers feeling the texture of an envelope.
