The walls shook violently beneath my feet as books crashed endlessly around Kai’s chambers. I stumbled backward instinctively while the candles struggled to relight themselves. For one terrifying second, I thought the entire estate would split open beneath us. Kai grabbed my wrist before I lost balance completely. “Move,” he barked. Another violent tremor shook the room.
