She was asleep in my arms, exhausted by her display of power.
"Mara!" I shouted over the din of battle.
The Elder appeared at the bunker door, eyes wide.
"Take her," I commanded, shoving the bundle into Mara’s arms. "Lock the door. Do not open it unless you hear my voice."
"Elena, you're weak—"
"I am the Queen," I said, stepping back into the snow. "And my husband is fighting alone."
I shifted.
My silver-black wolf burst forth. The pain of childbirth vanished, replaced by the adrenaline of the kill. My silver scars flared, casting a harsh light on the snow.
