Seraphina’s POV It wasn’t happiness I felt after leaving Elias. Not relief, either. If anything, it was hollow. Heavy. Like peeling away a bandage only to find the wound hadn’t healed—it had just gone numb. I guess I wasn’t as cold-hearted as I thought. But truthfully? I didn’t miss him. I missed me.

"Vera, I tried again and again. This is the closest I could get to her taste. She's with you now. I hope you've found each other." He dropped his head low, pressing his forehead against the cold concrete again and again. "I got the plot beside yours for Maddie. With you by her side, Maddie will never be alone. I'm not going to put myself anywhere near her. I know what I did, and I certainly don't deserve to rest beside her. Even in death, she wouldn't want to see me." I drifted behind him, watching as he walked away. A strange calm settled over me. In the distance, the wail of sirens grew closer.

I was supposed to slip it onto his finger at our destination wedding. "Ms. Wade, shall I put that away from you?" I smiled and tossed the ring into the trash can. "No need." And yet, she never once dared to let him see them. His legs felt heavy, like they were made of stone, and his heart was crushed by the weight of the loss. However, his face was blank and bewildered. His trembling hands reached for the photos. His large hand brushed gently over Jasmine's face in the pictures, caressing it again and again. His breath grew more rapid, as if his chest might explode. What now? It seemed that he had really fallen for Jasmine. However, he could never let her know now. - The room was a mess with alcohol bottles scattered across the floor, but he carefully set Jasmine's paintings aside.

That was the preservation fluid and blood left behind when the heart fell. The moisture had almost dried, and the marks had darkened. “That mark,” I said as I pointed at the ground, “is the last trace of this heart. It was alive and beating in the preservation fluid. It was ruined by your kick. It is dead, and Mr. Quinn is gone too.” Ariana stared at the puddle for two seconds and then looked away. “Tsk. You were not holding it steady. Why are you blaming me?”
