Myths of the Forgotten Realms. As the cashier rings everything up, my fingers trace the book’s worn edges. Something about it still pulls at me, even if I know it’s probably a dead end. I pay in cash, the paper soft and warm from my pocket, and Valerie loops her arm through mine as we step back into the sunlight. “Last stop,” she announces with a twinkle in her eye. “You, me, and some dangerously sparkly nails.” I laugh, genuinely, for the first time in what feels like forever.

The sight before him stole his breath. The sky was clear and sharp, washed in pale silver light from the twin moons that hung over a sea of newborn snow. He stood so high that the clouds now drifted below him, an endless white ocean stretching toward infinity. And from that height, he saw it. Far below, between the jagged mountain spines, was a single patch of green. A small valley untouched by frost, as though winter itself dared not cross its borders. A paradise of life nestled within a world of death.

She said softly yet with so much joy and happiness blooming in her tone. "Yes." I said gently. "I have a story to tell them," "Really?" She chuckled. I nodded with my eyes still retained on her stomach. I heaved a light sigh before letting the words roll out. "Far in the west, deep in the forests, amongst the beautiful Green valley lies the one and only Greenville Pack. A place filled with so much memories, joy, happiness, A place, where I found love." My lips pursed while my eyes moved up to hers. Enchanted by her beautiful honey eyes that beheld tiny traces of tears.

Whatever happens after today I know what I found and I know it is real and I know I have put it somewhere safe and that is enough. She wrote that the valley would still be there. Mountains kept longer accounts than people did. She wrote, at the very end, one sentence. To whoever is standing in that valley when this finds you: stand in it for a while. Just stand in it. It will be worth your time. Nikolai stopped. The library held the silence of a room that has had something real said in it. Priya was crying quietly. Not dramatically. Just the specific quiet tears of a woman hearing something her husband had given his life to protect finally arrive where it was supposed to go.

They shared a secret heavier than any magic. They lowered into the clouds, and then below them, the world changed. The mist parted. Below was not more rock, but a canopy of green so vivid it hurt the eyes after the grey stone. A valley, hidden in the mountain’s deepest embrace, untouched by frost or fire. A river like a silver thread glittered through its center. The Last Green Place. Their feet touched soft, mossy earth. The air was warm and sweet with the smell of living things. The silence here was not empty, but full,the buzz of insects, the distant call of a bird, the rustle of leaves.

This had once been the place where our love first took root, but time had passed, and so many things had faded that I could barely remember them anymore. Following June's final wishes, I found a grove of poplar trees and erected a nameless gravestone for her there. Back when we first arrived in the desert, I remembered June making a vow. She said she would one day cover this barren land with greenery and life. And this grove of poplars had been planted by our own hands. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but green. But I no longer had the heart to stay and admire the scenery.

Perhaps a change of topic might help calm him down. "GREEN Chimes Valley," he corrected and sighed. "Jesus Christ…." "But I heard you say 'Blue'— " "Whose home is it?!" He turned back with an incredulous look. "Sorry." I mustered a cheerful smile and asked, "What's it like? Blu—I mean—Green Chime Valley." He huffed a weary sigh and leaned back, his head thrown back, eyes closed. "There's grass… as green as the freshest lettuce of a fucking salad…."

➳ Pernwél After having breakfast at the roadside restaurant and having recovered from all the revelations that Jake had thrown in my lap, we got ready for the rest of the trip. We had the waitress order us some salads and sandwiches to take with us for lunch. We drove from the mountains where the Grey Moon pack had their territory, onto the vast landscapes of the valley and forest that spanned the horizon. I pondered over Jake’s words about the Green Valley pack. Now, I had to mentally prepare for things that weren’t found in my normal environment. I can close my eyes and tell which one of my kids are my favourite even though Aurora isn’t my blood I would always choose her over everything and everyone. Am glad that I listened to that man and took another way which lead me to aurora and am grateful for him for guiding me to my heart. Working with criminals and masterminds for years I lost the soft side of my heart which she brought it alive. Her green eyes and platinum blonde hair with tanned skin she looked like a porcelain doll, I still fear what would have happened if I didn’t take her home with me that night, am glad I did.
