From the inside pocket of his black jacket he pulls out an old leather-bound notebook, its cover cracked and faded from time and crouches down beside me, his intense eyes boring into mine. “Tara,” he begins, his voice low, “it’s time you knew the truth. About you. About the boundary.” My brows furrowed. “The boundary? What do you mean? You’re guys crossed every single personal boundary barging in here, what the hell do you mean boundaries?” I snap back frustrated.

Before I spit out the last words I said that night, I watched his eyes widen in dread. “This will be the last.”

I ordered him to tell me. And he hit me with the last answer I’d expected. “Phantom Den.”

“You’re fired.” The words didn’t sink in at first. I just stood there staring at him, wondering if I had heard wrong. But deep down I knew I hadn’t. “Sir please…” I turned to him desperately. “This will be the last time. It will never happen again.” “I know it won’t happen again because there will be no next time.” He barely looked up from his phone. “Get out of my sight now.” No. No. No. This can’t be happening.

That was not the Morgan who made me instant noodles. The real her had turned to ashes. Even her reputation after death had become a tool her son used to trap me. “Have some water.” A glass was handed to me. Saying it out loud again was hitting me harder than I expected. He took a slow careful step towards me, as though I might vanish if he moved too quickly. The atmosphere felt charged with sadness and something else I couldn’t figure out.

The last thing I remember before passing out was that I had asked him to stop. When I managed to regain my senses I was in my room at Van Hellfrost Manor, I was filled with confusion as I clearly remembered that I had been fired. I was hooked up to a special machine that measured my vital signs and had a treatment being put through my veins. I took a deep breath as I felt someone turn on the light in the room and walked over to sit on the corner of the bed I was sitting on. It was Victor. "Good morning...I hope you don't mind" he informed me as he looked me straight in the eyes.

"You're getting treated first, okay? You mean more to me than whatever is happening. I can't lose you. I fucking can't!" Tears slipped down my cheek as he said those heartfelt words. His voice was thick with emotions and I could see the tears that slipped down his cheeks. This was probably going to be our last moments together. I was going to tell him how much I loved him and I wanted him to say the same to me because this was going to be the last tien he would feel this for me. I could already imagine the hate he was going to feel towards him after letting him know that I had been sent to kill him. That I had been sent to monitor and answer to someone else while pretending to be a man.
