The Plight Before Christmas Book Novels & Stories

Shaking with fear, I hid in the far corner. When I was thirsty, I ate snow. When I was hungry, I slept. The frostbite sores flared up. The pain had me crying every day. Whenever I heard footsteps, I dragged the stiff body in front of me like a shield. That was how I spent two days. Next to a corpse. My hair was a total mess, knotted everywhere. My clothes were filthy. I looked like I'd been living on the street for years. On Christmas Eve, I finally dragged myself out to beg for food.

Before I could open the passenger seat for her, she had already done it herself. I turned on the engine and steered the car onto the road. The cloud was already getting darker, but fortunately the Christmas lights illuminating the streets made it brighter. Snowflakes were falling in tiny particles. I averted my eyes from the windshield a bit to Nelly; her face was a bit creased as she stared intensely at a message that obviously was unread. "Why the worried face on Christmas night?" I asked, feeling very concerned. She looked to my side with her innocent eyes, shit.

“Well here are a few tips for you. One, you can’t look hideous on Christmas Day. Meaning that you can’t meet baby Jesus when you’re looking like someone hit you with a sack of potatoes. "Because this isn't cartoon, Hayley. This is real life. And in real life, people don't always get anything they want." I hunkered down so I was at her level before I showed her the child and his mother looking for Christmas presents. “Christmas is all about giving, Hayley. Cartoons won't show you this, but there are several children in the world who can't celebrate Christmas because they don't have money." "But…I don’t understand…what do you mean?” She looked at me with a frown. “Can I not have clothes anymore?” “Of course you can.” Now…how do I put this? “I want you to understand the difference between want and need.”

I bury my face against his neck - which is delightfully warm - and whisper, "I'm okay with that, too." And as he carries me back to the house, I know this is going to be the most perfect Christmas ever. END OF BOOK EIGHT: A CUNNINGHAM CHRISTMAS

I apologized. “What else is on the list?” She said, clearly irritated, I was about to give her the list when she dragged it off my hand and walked away. Today was Christmas Eve, and we were shopping to decorate the house, we normally do it before time but today it was late, and not the whole family was around. I rested my head on my legs as my hand found its way to my tummy, it had been hurting a lot, “We need to talk,” I raised my head when I heard Zade's voice.

A hollow feeling in my heart whenever I think about my family, the grief I feel whenever I remember those who died in that bloody Christmas party. Over the weeks, I've had little or no contact with Joel. The only reason he came to my room was to warn me that time was running out. I was so scared at what would happen if time finally runs out. My family hasn't made any contact with Joel, actually nobody at the white house has even made any effort to secure my release.

It read, in big block print, “Santa’s Workshop.” “Right,” Serendipity nodded, realizing that if she could read, she would have known that. Her face lost a bit of the glimmer from before, but she still stared in awe. “How amazing!” she whispered, looking up at several stories of glass windows and the brightly dressed elves scurrying about with various toys, different patterns of wrapping paper, and other items essential to making and finishing off Christmas presents.

When we got inside, there were still a lot of people but not as many as the roaring people down the street. "Miss, Santelli. You're here," the female wearing the cheapest sheath dress said, her frizzy hair blocking my view. I raised my mental eyebrow when I heard her implied 'you're late' greeting. Playing along I said, "Yes. I'm very sorry. The afternoon traffic was a nightmare." "That's no problem, Miss Santelli. Right this way." She led me to a long table with a chair in the middle and millions of Times Magazine copies stacked nearby. I smiled and gave a slight wave at the people inside the library and took my seat on the chair.
