He was shoved into the car, and soon the flashing red and blue lights stretched into the distance, disappearing beyond the estate.
The hall was a complete mess. Champagne spilled across the floor. The floral arch had collapsed. The band huddled in the corner, barely daring to breathe.
Someone finally spoke up, hesitant. “Consigliere, is tonight… over?”
I turned and looked at the guests, each wearing a different expression.
“The wedding is over,” I said, “but the score still isn’t settled.”
I ordered the music cut and the floral decorations taken down. Behind the main table, the family crest was hung back into place.
