I watched her for a few more seconds, then forced myself to go back inside the house. I went straight to my room, locked the door, and took a long, cold shower. The water did nothing to calm me down. I kept seeing her wet body. I kept hearing her voice saying she touched herself while thinking about me. I lay in bed afterward, staring at the ceiling in the dark. This summer was going to destroy me. No matter how hard I tried to resist, Ava was winning the game. And deep down, a dangerous part of me was starting to want her to win.

I didn’t say whether I liked it or not.” This surprised a laugh out of Brad. “Touché.” “I’m just messing with you,” the man said, wearing an infectious grin. “I thought it was a great book, creepy and atmospheric. The movie adaptation, on the other hand . . . that was a real stinker.”

It was quiet for a few minutes and he finally said, “Tilly and I have absolutely no secrets. People like you and me … we can’t be with just anyone. It’s either one night stands, fake short term relationships or nothing. You don’t just find a Tilly on every corner. I slid the book over to the left of the table so I could pull out the book that the sprites had bestowed upon me, maybe it had some answers. The heavy grimoire hit the table with a loud ‘thump’. I let my fingers trace the shimmering rhinestones that lined the cover of the elegant literature before finally opening the book to look inside. To my surprise, when I opened the book a bright flash of light came forth, blurring my vision. I yelped aloud from the surprise of the light blinding me all a sudden. I blinked several times trying to clear my vision and when finally I could see again I noticed that I wasn’t inside my hut anymore.

The book said. I placed my trembling hand on the glowing pages of the Book of Shadows and a searing pain shot through my fingers like a bolt of lightning. It was as if my hand had been engulfed in flames, the intensity of the sensation causing me to cry out in agony. "Ahhhh!" I yelped, my voice echoing through the cottage as I tried to jerk my hand away from the book's surface. But to my horror, the pain only intensified, as though invisible chains were holding me in place, trapping me in a vortex of excruciating torment.

Although he can't leave here, like me, who knows what he gets up to in his spare time. "Not quite," he says, holding up the book so the cover faces me. On it, is the name Shinee in bright golden letters surrounded by dark tinted italic pattern swirling around like magic. It looks similar in configuration to mind. "It's a book, on your mate."
