Maeve stared at the laptop screen with watery eyes. The cursor blinked at the end of the last page, as if waiting for permission to stop. THE END. She remained motionless for nearly ten minutes, her hands trembling over the keyboard. The manuscript for Embracing Shadows was complete. Two hundred and eighty-seven pages of pain, love, anger, redemption, and desire transformed into words. It wasn’t exactly her story, but it was hers. Every scene carried fragments of her soul—the unwanted touches, her mother’s complicit silence, the escapes, the cruise, the silk ropes, the fear, and the healing.

the letter read. “I spent four hours today arguing with a man who smelled like old goat cheese and gunpowder. I found myself wondering if you were still reading about the Medicis, or if you’d moved on to something less bloody. I found a bookstore in a small village today. It was tucked between a bakery and a butcher shop. I saw a first edition of 'The Shining' and thought of you. Stay in the sun, Little Bird.” I laughed again, a sound that I had not genuinely made in a while .

Her heart started racing wildly the moment she put the book on her crossed lap, but more of terror than joyfulness. Lennie instantly knew there was something that she should never know hidden inside that book, but she didn’t give it a damn care. “You'd better in this fucking book, Zeno,” she murmured to herself again, and then slowly opened the book. The next moment, all of a sudden, her eyes, her face, her whole body, including her soul were caught by a flash of white light.

I replied, my voice filled with guilt. Alex opened his mouth to say more, but his aunt interrupted. “It’s time you all know the truth” She said as she opened the book, flipping through its fragile, yellowed pages until she landed on an illustration. The image depicted a man so handsome and ethereal he seemed almost unreal. His golden hair glowed like sunlight, his piercing blue eyes radiated power, and his angelic face was adorned with a serene, yet arrogant, expression. Ashley, Alaina, and Mia couldn’t help but gasp in awe.

The room was dark except for a strange, shimmering light coming from the far end. My feet carried me toward it, my pulse racing with a mix of fear and curiosity. When I reached the source of the light, my breath caught in my throat. An old, weathered book sat on a pedestal, its pages glowing with an ethereal light. The symbols on the cover were unlike anything I had ever seen—ancient, magical, and somehow… familiar. I hesitated for a moment, glancing around the room as if expecting someone to jump out and stop me. But there was no one. Only the persistent call of the voice urging me to look deeper. I reached out, my hand trembling as I touched the glowing book.

I replied back as I stretched my hands to remove the painting but it didn’t move, instead it slid and revealed a medium sized box. I took the box out and placed it on the desk. It was an old mahogany box with gold engravings on it. “Sinclair” I opened it carefully and revealed a very thick brown greenish book with about 200 pages made of parchment or something like and had the title written on it with big bold handwriting: “BOOK OF SHADOWS” I smiled happily, I couldn’t believe that I had it in my hands and looked at Kevin who was still anxious saying: “We found it” he nodded his head and was about to speak when we suddenly heard an applause behind us.

I slid the book over to the left of the table so I could pull out the book that the sprites had bestowed upon me, maybe it had some answers. The heavy grimoire hit the table with a loud ‘thump’. I let my fingers trace the shimmering rhinestones that lined the cover of the elegant literature before finally opening the book to look inside. To my surprise, when I opened the book a bright flash of light came forth, blurring my vision. I yelped aloud from the surprise of the light blinding me all a sudden. I blinked several times trying to clear my vision and when finally I could see again I noticed that I wasn’t inside my hut anymore.
