The air smelled like traces of the storm from the night before. Eric and I stood near a tree while Nova went to find something to draw. Eric told her to be sure to capture the rain on any plants she drew if she could. I looked up towards the tops of the trees, breathing in the clear air. I would never walk into that forest and not be amazed by the majesty of it. Maybe it was just a forest outside of a little town in a state in a country in a continent, and maybe it wasn't famous like the Redwood Forest or the A****n.

He reached and grabbed my hand again; pulling me close to his side with a quick tug. Luckily, we didn’t have long before our small travel group came to a sudden stop in the middle of a small clearing. Looking around, I let out a small gasp at what I saw before me. Two large trees, easily a few hundred years old stood on either side of a large pathway. One of the trees was a deep dark, obsidian wood, while the other was so pale, it looked to be as if it was bleached by the sun. The Forest’s Champion The trees did not fall silent. Their fearful whispers grew louder, building like storm winds into a crescendo of despair. Branches swayed though no wind stirred them, leaves rustling in a thousand shivering voices. Mirra could hear them all: the cry of birch, the wail of pine, the groan of oak. They spoke of fading light, of a chill spreading through their ranks like frost in mid-summer. They spoke of roots clawing at barren soil, searching desperately for purchase where none remained.

Lilian spoke from behind and that was fucking true. They can control anything to their will and this trees might be an hologram for what is deep behind it. I walked closer to the tree and placed both my hands on it. The tree thumps loudly beneath my palm like a human’s heart. This is insane!! I don’t even get what’s going on at this point. “Lilian try checking the views from the above, Lucky try checking if they’re other trees like this and Mateo this tree seems like it’s beating look if they’re others like this while the rest of us will try climbing” I ordered immediately.

Alessio opens the back door, and we go outside, heading toward the lake. When I look toward the wood, something catches my attention and I stop. It's two twisted-looking oak trees standing opposite each other. Thick vines wrap around the branches, which grow high and wide like they're reaching for the sky. I turn, and so does Alessio. "What is it?" he asks. "There." I point. "There's something about those trees." I'm walking toward them before he answers. He follows, falling in step with me. The closer I get, the stranger I feel. No longer feeling that sense of familiarity, but something else.

Watching him work, I couldn't help but inwardly laugh at the situation—a child was showing me up in technology, a humbling yet endearing moment. As Koda worked his magic, the image on the monitor grew closer, bringing the mysterious figures and their interaction with the trees into clearer view. "I have no idea what they are doing," Cassy repeated, her confusion deepening as the scene unfolded before us. Koda, ever observant, piped up and caught us all off guard. Ruby tells him looking around. "Well, where do we go? We don't even know how far away we are." Cole says. "It's alright sweetheart. We'll get there. And we'll save our world from destruction. We have to." Ruby assured him. And she started walking through the field until they got to the forest and they were looking around at the strange trees that didn't move or change shape or anything. They just sat there and did nothing. "What is wrong with these trees?" Cole asked. "I don't know. They look dead." Ruby says.

There was nothing that could help me understand the direction. I cursed myself for making such a foolish plan. I was an idiot to make a plan involving The forest even after the bone-chilling experience I had the last time. I took deep breaths to calm myself and tried to analyze the forest objectively. I studied the trees closely. There were oaks, rhododendrons, and maples.

________________ ________________ We move quickly towards the tree as if pulled by some weird forces and Elsa goes on her knees to try and reach the brilliant green plants that seem to glitter like someone just watered them, as she stretches her fingers towards it, her eyes aligning with the belly of the trunk, she notices more. "E! I think we need to call someone to help raise this tree from the ground, there might be enough for everyone," she says with a bright smile. "What ever you say El, you are the boss." I reply giggling with excitement.

Patricia exclaimed, her voice filled with awe and wonder as she spotted the towering narra and mahogany trees lining the road. She rolled down the window slightly, letting the cool, damp air rush in, along with a few stray drops of rain. "Yeah, do you want to get closer?" Alvin asked, his eyes following her gaze. Patricia couldn’t tear her eyes away from the trees, their grand, ancient trunks standing tall and proud, their leaves shimmering like emeralds in the soft rain. "Can we? Won’t the owner mind?" she asked, her voice tinged with both excitement and hesitation.
