Orion asked with a mischievous smile. Brindlewood Village was small and quiet, far from the busy towns that thrived on visitors and tourism. Most of the villagers were older, their faces weathered by years of sun and work, but their eyes twinkled with warmth. They waved to strangers and exchanged quiet greetings, going about their day in a slow, gentle rhythm that made the village feel alive and welcoming. I took Orion’s hand, pressing my boots into the thick, fresh snow. Each step crunched satisfyingly underfoot.

“This is… unbelievable.” Drake came to stand beside her as well. He, too, was staring, eyes filled with emotion after taking in everything. He felt joy to see his people move around so freely. “A magical village,” he murmured. “I didn’t think one like this existed.” “It almost didn’t,” Davina replied quietly. “That is why it must remain hidden.” As they moved deeper into the village, heads began to turn. Whispers spread and they were greeted with curious eyes. Then smiles bloomed when someone gasped softly.

But something has shifted, infinitesimally small but present nonetheless. We reach the edge of Moonstone territory by midday. The change is immediately noticeable—the forest grows quieter, the birds stop singing, even the wind seems muted. "There." Fitz points ahead to where the trees thin. "Village." We approach cautiously, weapons ready, shields at the ready. The village is abandoned. Not recently abandoned—this happened weeks ago. But everything is eerily preserved, as if the inhabitants simply vanished mid-activity. Doors left open. Tools scattered in yards. Laundry still hanging from lines.

Ziegler Ville was vast. Visitors would be greeted by a huge residential area upon passing the entrance. And that was just the central area, according to the elderly woman. Further up in the mountain was the upper area.

The village was quiet, and the person guarding the entrance of the village was dozing off, so she successfully sprinkled the powder into the well. By the next morning, the people in the village woke up and drank water. An hour later, they would have an attack. After leaving Butteriron Village, Zoey arrived at Blackmere Village. To her surprise, Blackmere Village was brightly lit, seemingly filled with a joyful atmosphere. She hid behind the tree, observing the situation inside. There was singing and dancing inside, as if celebrating some kind of ceremony. Zoey suddenly had a bad guess in her mind. Are you suggesting that we held a wedding?

And no one knew what deeper secrets the village might be hiding. The Special Missions Unit had no clear route and couldn't just wander around the village aimlessly. If they did, they'd be easy targets. "Oh, we're here to camp. We read online that you can see the stars clearly from around here." It was true. The village, perched on higher ground, did offer a good view of the night sky. The villager frowned and waved his hands. "This is my home. You can't just camp here whenever you like."

“Auren, Draken, Riven, Kael...you’re with me. We make sure this village is secure, then we check the third.” Varien’s voice rumbled in my skull, pride mixing with possessiveness. The houses were small and weathered, some leaning like they’d give up with the next hard wind. The scent of hunger was everywhere, thin, brittle and hollow. Children peeked from behind doorframes, eyes too big for their gaunt faces, clothes hanging off them in faded rags.

As they emerged from the portal's shimmering gateway, Kai was awestruck by the sight that unfolded before him. The villages, nestled amidst a dense forest, exuded an aura of tranquillity and ancient power. Werewolf warriors, their forms lean and muscular, moved with an air of grace and purpose, their every movement hinting at their formidable strength. The air crackled with an unspoken energy, a palpable testament to the village's rich heritage and potent lineage.

I was either doing something really, really brave or really, really stupid. Either way, I couldn’t stop myself. I ran through the trees until I reached a break on what must have been the other side of the forest. What I saw there sent a chill down my spine. Barlow was burning. The village was small, mostly idyllic cottages with thatched roofs and some larger farm properties, all tucked neatly together in perfectly organized rows. It could not have been very big, only a population of a few hundred people, but it was well maintained and clearly wealthy. It looked like a scene from another time–a simpler time.

It means the attack has begun. Azeriel glances back at her. “Stay close to me. The trail widens as they near the village. Screams rise in the distance. Not panicked chaos yet, but frightened cries that blend with the crackling of small fires. They round the final bend and the sight hits Rowan like a punch.
