The boy she’d had a crush on for so long was alone. The music was coming from Tyler’s jeep, and it was loud. Beth liked Alice in Chains, but she wasn’t sure she needed to hear the band inside of her brain. Tyler, a loud, skinny guy who still had the acne of a prepubescent, was collecting cash with one hand and handing out bottles with the other. “That’s right, $5 keeps you drinking until the well is dry!” he shouted, perched on his bumper as he reached into the back seat.

Tyler coaxed me as he handed me a flask. Tyler was the school’s bad boy. He rode a motorcycle, dressed in a leather jacket, biker boots, and had tattoos. Someone started a rumor that he had both his nipples pierced, but I couldn’t vouch for that because I had never seen him without a shirt on. It didn’t stop me from looking at his chest now that I was standing so close to him.

As soon as I heard his strong, gruff voice, I knew who it was. “I wondered when you would come back,” Tyler said as he smiled and gave Tyson a bro hug. “I see some eye candy that can become my next conquest.” Tyler smiled mischievously as he strode to the buffet table where a young dark-haired girl was. “He won’t ever change,” Tyson said, laughing. I didn’t say anything as I was taking him in. He was gorgeous, tanned, tall, and bulky in all the right places, with dark brown hair and baby blue eyes.
