Expecting it. I looked away from his cheery, inquisitive expression. “Just forgot my umbrella, is all.” “Oh,” he said. “Where are you heading?” “My dorm. I need to get some stuff from there.” “Huh, what a coincidence,” Colton mused, and raised his hand. “I just so happen to be heading the same way, and I also happen to have a big enough umbrella. Wanna share?” I stared at him for a moment, and then at the baby blue umbrella.

She was arriving at one of the most significant parties of Shadowbrook Academy with Lucian Umbra, prince of the demon kingdom and the fallen angel of the academy. The rumors and gossip about their relationship were only going to intensify. She sighed, as if she wasn’t popular enough already. But that was actually the least of her worries. Tonight was full of mystery. She thought of all the questions that had been circling in her mind since the meeting: who were the inside enemy? What was their plan for the party? Would the party end in chaos? And then there was the drama she was to act with Vyr. Would she act the kissing scene successfully without fumbling?

It’s… complicated.” My suspicion lingered, but I was too weak to resist. “Umbra Academy?” Anne nodded. “It’s a place for the elite. Killers and witches, shifters. They teach you how to survive, how to lead. It’s not a kind place, but it’s powerful.”

I sniffled, rubbing the lonesome tear threatening to fall off her face. Instantly, Hilda held my hands in hers and warned with concern, “Kate, you can’t go to Umbra Academy. They’ll shred you alive over there.” “I know, Hilda. But there’s nothing I can do. My fate is sealed.” I said with defeat, lowering my head. Umbra Academy was a school for the elite of shifters and witches where they were taught how to rule and steer ahead in this power-hungry world. Although it seemed like a promising place, bullying and murder were often found to take place on its campus.
