Ava stood in front of it, still in the loose black infirmary shirt, her hair tied back haphazardly. She didn’t move. She didn’t fidget. She just stared. One eye looked slightly more tired than the other. Her mouth curved wrong when she frowned. Things no one else would notice. She saw all of it. She whispered— > “Ava Monroe.” Waited. No glitch. No echo. But she didn’t believe it. She tried again. > “Ava Monroe.” Still no change. Still the same face staring back. But something behind the eyes— It felt like glass being pressed from the inside. Like a breath against a window, just faint enough to question.

His chest rose and fell steadily, and Ava latched onto that movement like it was the only thing holding her upright. She moved closer, careful, reverent. Sat beside him. “Oh, Matthew,” she whispered, reaching for his hand. It was warm. Thank God, it was warm. His parents stood back, murmuring to the doctor. Ava barely heard them. Hours passed. Or maybe minutes. She lost track. She watched his face like it might disappear if she looked away. Counted each breath. Memorized the curve of his mouth, the faint scar on his brow she used to kiss without thinking.

He couldn’t be happier if he tried. Annie gave us the choice between the first Avengers movie or Spiderman: Homecoming. After a short debate, we settled for The Avengers. The movie started and I glanced toward Aria. She sat farthest away possible from Nick. I saw him frowning and I smirked. It’s not going to be that easy, buddy. I focused on the movie again. I actually enjoyed watching it, even though I had seen it several times before. I was interrupted by Nick’s loud sigh. We all looked at him, but he didn’t meet our gaze and just stared at the TV. The girls looked away, but I kept my gaze on him. I knew something was bugging him.

I pressed in my password and the laptop screen lit on. I peeled off my clothes and folded them on my bed as I brought out a long comfortable gown from my wardrobe and wore it. I picked my eye piece and walked back to the table. I quickly sat down and went to my videos. I number of folders popped up as clicked on the folder titled 'K'. A lot of movies popped out as scrolled to Vagabond. It was a new movie I collected before I left home. Plugging the ear piece into the laptop and my ears; I clicked on episode one as I started watching the movie unfold.

Aria turned to the screen too and waited for whatever was about to come on. A movie began with a couple walking into their house. His wife bowed to him before walking away from him which Aria found awkward. “I don't understand… “ “Shut up and watch, Aria.” Dalvin cut her off and she turned to the screen. The husband walked into his room and slowly started to take off his clothes. Aria gasped and covered her eyes with her palm. Dalvin noticed and pulled her hands from her eyes then held them firmly. “Sorry,” Aria muttered and watched the screen.

The movie started half an hour later after multiple commercials about other movies, what we can do to reduce climate change and what not. Looking at Bennett I couldn't help but admire him. He's breathtaking and beautiful. His shaggy blonde hair looked soft and his blue eyes were bright with excitement and his lips looked so kissable and I looked away to keep me from kissing him right then and there. "What?" He whispered his eyes locked on the screen making me shake my head with a soft chuckle

“I didn’t know it would look like that.” The golden avatar slowly lifted its head. Its eyes burned with the same light as the node towers. Every movement caused waves of energy to ripple across its form. High above Earth, inside the alien vessel, the observers reacted immediately. “System avatar detected.” “Impossible.” “Primitive civilizations should not be able to activate that protocol.” The commander leaned forward slightly. “…Interesting.” Back on the battlefield, the monster roared again. Ava's smile reached her eyes for the first time in days. She looked at me over Maya's head. "This is what they want to destroy. This right here." I smiled, my heart full. "They will not. We protect this. No matter what." Later that night, Ava lay in bed, her eyes wide open. "Stay awake with me. Just a little. Please." I held her, my arms around her. "I am here. Tell me what you see. I'll watch with you." Ava pointed at the clock. "It flickered. Did you see it?"

COLLIN'S POV Watching Ava laugh with her mother did something strange to my chest. Maybe it was because twenty minutes ago she'd been crying so hard I thought she might break apart or maybe it was because my wolf was practically wagging his tail watching our mate smile again. Either way, I couldn't stop staring. Her mother had finally fallen asleep after talking with her for a while, and Ava quietly slipped out of the room, carefully closing the hospital door behind her. The second she spotted me, a small smile appeared on her face and Moon Goddess help me, I nearly forgot how to breathe.
