Whispers of the Heart
As I fall, I would have inwardly cursed myself for possibly giving away my position if I wasn’t now petrified as I plunged downward toward an unknown depth.
In the dream, I felt no pain as I hit the ground below. Instead, I bounced like I had just landed on a trampoline. As I stood up, I tested the ground again but the bounce was now gone, replaced with nothing but hard earth and a darkness so intense that I cannot see an inch in front of my face. I hold my arms out and as I slowly turn in a complete circle, I encounter nothing but empty space. I take a few steps forward at a time until my hands feel the cold, damp dirt. I turn around and measure, foot to foot across the darkness, hands outs
