Which Jane Austen Book Should I Read First Novels & Stories

~Richard~ I swallowed and nodded hastily, dismissing the thoughts of how things ended. “Yeah, of course. I felt the emotions from your characters right from the beginning of the book.” I looked at her and saw a knowing smile on her face, like she could see right past the façade I put up. “Okay.” She shrugged, still refusing to look away. I reached into the bag I had brought with me and pulled out a book, a favorite from when I was much younger: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.

She mutters. "I'll see to it tomorrow. I'll take her to school myself so you don't have to follow her." I say. "Okay sir." She nods. "Any new book you're reading?" I inquire. "It totally slipped my mind when we first met to show you the library but I figured you'd find it someday." "I'm still reading Pride and Prejudice but I got another from the library." She smiles. "Wuthering Heights." "Will you read it to me sometime?" I ask her.

Well, aren't you his fan? "Do you have something else in mind?" he asks in a normal tone of voice, ignoring my question. How rude! I scowl, but I’m hardly affected. "Um . . . Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen," I tell him. "Or maybe . . . Sense and Sensibility?" I contradict my own choices, and he smiles at it. "Is Jane Austen your favorite?" he asks, a sweet glow in his cool eyes. "If we're speaking of Classic romance, then yes, she's my favorite. I prefer happy ending than tragedies, and Jane Austen always grants my wish." I go dreamy; oblivious of whom I'm talking to.

"I want to know everything about you." "Aiden—" She shivered as my lips found that sensitive spot behind her ear. "I can't—I'm trying not to think about—" "I know." I tightened my arms carefully around her. "So let me help you think about something else. Something good." She was quiet for a moment, then: "Pride and Prejudice. The original, not any of the retellings." "Why that one?" I pressed another kiss to her neck, feeling her pulse flutter beneath my lips.

It would have been worth it. But I decided to be smart about it. Instead of causing a scene, I left and waited for her at her apartment. I passed the time flipping through "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen—one of the many romantic classics stacked on her shelf. I had read it before, but tonight, the words barely registered as my mind kept circling back to her, laughing with him like he had not almost ruined her life. My grip tightened around the book, my jaw clenching as seconds stretched into minutes.

Things at school have returned to normal, and Bane still abuses me, only he makes sure he does not hit my face, and if he does, it's only a slap, and Bane does not hit hard enough to leave a mark. I wander through the hall of the palace, going to the library. I finished my novel, and since I have nothing better to do, I plan to read my favorite book, The Pride and Prejudice, By Jane Austen; I have read it many times, and I love romance between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. It makes me wish that I could live in such a beautiful Novel; I long to be loved like all the characters I read about, but I know that it never happens for someone like me; I need to learn to accept that this is my life. The bell rang. Jane was stuffing A Tale of Two Cities into her backpack when she heard Lucy's voice beside her. "You're reading Dickens?" Jane nodded warily. "Oh, I love Dickens. Have you read David Copperfield? Or Oliver Twist? Olive Twist is my favorite. I've read it twice. I cried both times. I can't believe someone else in our class is reading Dickens." To her dismay, Jane found herself walking down the hall to English with Lucy by her side, still talking, talking, talking.

At her feet, there were four books. All written by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice. Sense and sensibility. Persuasion. Emma. She had another book open in her hands, and when she looked up at me, flashing me a smile that showed off her perfect pearly white teeth, my heart skipped. She was angelic. For a moment, I didn't move. Couldn't. I didn't speak either – just stood there gawking at the beauty of her. She must have thought I was awkward.

She also had an A-average grade and would pick re-reading Kierra Cass' Selection Series to going to a party any day. In its essence, she had basically the best of both worlds, minus the Hannah Montana hassle. Everyone knew her personality and accepted her. "Yeah," I replied as I rummaged through my bag for my notes. "How hard could it be right? Jane Austen is pretty easy." Right. Tell that to your sore back, you avid procrastinator! "Yeah, if you were from the 19th century," she grunted as she pulled her books from her locker. "No. You just have to understand the concept." I had only understood it after reading someone's essay on it online. And no, I did not plagiarize. That's bad.

"Humm..Sense and..sen-si-bi-li-ty.. by Ja-ne..oh well..Jane Austen. Who's this?" I was looking for some ointments and medicines in the First aid kit. "Are you serious? " "Yeah.. I don't know this author!" "You mean,that you actually READ BOOKS!?" "Sometimes..only if there's a movie adaptation! Who's she?" "Do you know ,the characters Elizabeth Benet or Mr. Fidzwilliam Darcy?" "Who's that?" " Seriously though..haven't you read Pride and Prejudice?" "Hummm i don't know..!"
