Sweet Dreams
Her lips parted like she’d forgotten how to speak as she trembled.
I said nothing and just looked at her. I Let the silence tighten like rope then she whispered, barely audible:
“I need to confess.”She whispers..
I should’ve sent her home. I knew it was the right thing to do but I didn’t instead, I stepped back and opened the confessional box and she slipped inside like a girl stepping into the mouth of the beast.
“Bless me, Father, for I have sinned…”She murmurs, Her voice cracked on the first word. She was shaking and her breath coming in a rushed and unsteady rhythm, I could hear her breaths too fast, too shallow, too desperate to be holy.
