"Yeah. YA section's in the back." I walked to the back. Found shelves labeled Young Adult Fiction. Pulled out a book at random. Read the back. Something about dragons. Shoved it back in. Pulled out another. Read the back.

Sometimes he winces in pain in his heart, imagining something heartbreaking while gently nuzzling his still flat stomach. "We will fight together, dear. Aluna Welas muttered to herself, while smiling a little.

So I became quiet and took care of myself. But David and Joon did pay attention to me and they did care about me in their own creepy way. So even though I had this rule with myself to fight everything they did to me. I would enjoy these little moments where they care about me. Just then I would accept to be a part of their creepy fantasy of me being their little girl, to get to know the feeling of being cared for, of being loved for.

I can't hear it clearly. "Nick?!" call Alexi who just came with her friends. I turned around for a moment before finally seeing Nicky stand up from Sandra's bench and approach Alexi. Did he mean Alexi as a younger cousin? “Hey, pretty girl! See you again!" said Nicky who from afar greeted me with a wave and I who was on the bench could only cover my face as if I didn't know him. What does he really want? We're just getting to know each other. And I'm not at all attracted by his looks, even though he's handsome. But he's not my type.

We still have a long way to go in our fight towards equality for all- and while Vasilisa’s decision won’t be everyone’s, I’m hoping wherever you are it gets better. It was fresh and invigorating, and it felt like the winds of change were blowing, as though bigger and better things were only a gust away. I was just another 18-year-old in twelfth grade. Unsurprisingly, that also meant I had teenage hormones that raged constantly, and I was always giving in to them. Aside from any pictures or videos I could have found on the internet, there were scores of pretty girls I found quite appealing at school. The combination of the two caused me to fabricate an endless array of fantasies in my head.

“Fantasy?” Came the uncertain inquiry through the bullhorn that sounded out loudly amongst the hustle and bustle of the crowded pier. Raising my hand I picked up my duffel bag and began making my way forward. As I walked the men about me stared. They always stared. It was kind of nice and yet annoying at the same time. It didn’t help that my Russian born mother so enamored with her relocation to a new and in her eyes, ‘fantasy land’ of America had named me as such.

No wonder there were girls from our clan who vanished every year. To wear someone's skin and use them to make ruby, where on earth did Grandma learn such dark sorcery? Perhaps she was not my grandmother at all! Perhaps she was a monster that had disguised itself among us, seeking new bodies as it aged. Now, I truly understood that I was in grave danger. As I was lost in my thoughts, something suddenly brushed against my calf. Even though I quickly covered my mouth, my reflexes caused me to move, and the ruby step let out a loud ding that echoed through the cave.
