Her pov:

The loud ringing of my phone woke me up.. It must have been ringing for a long time for making a sleepyhead like me to wake up.

I tried to search for it without opening my eyes.. Not finding it, I let out a sound of frustration and sit up, opening my eyes.

The phone is ringing on the mat of my room.. I pick it up with a frown on my face only to find out an unknown number calling me.

I picked up the phone and to my utter surprise it was the call from Amigos Taquerias, the famous company I gave an interview at ...I got the freaking job.

Though it's a job for the post of thee assistant of the boss it's a big deal for me cause I don't have any special degree. Specially for a famous company like this.. If not this, I don't know what could be a better start of the first day of the year than this.

I guess 2024 is my year. 

I thanked the women on the phone and all but ran to the other room.. The door was already open.Ella was seeing something on her phone.

"El, guess what?" 

"What happened , Lia?" She asks. 

" I GOT THE JOB AT THE AMIGOS TAQUERIAS BITCH!" 

Saying this I ran and hugged her tightly.. She's my bestie.. My only family whome I love a lot.. She hugged me back tightly.

" Owh my my congrats, bae!!!!" 

Leaving her, I told her I m joining tomorrow. 

"Girlll, we r having a party tonight. "

Haha, she's such a mood. Guess we are celebrating tonight.

The next day: 

I woke up with a pain in my head. I guess I had too much to drink last night. El is shaking me like crazy.

" Bitch u r late at the first day of your work congrats!"

Rubbing my eyes I asked "What's the time?" 

She shrugged. " It's 8 am."

" Oh no no no fuck fuck how could I!!"

I sat up in panic and ran to the bathroom to finish my morning business.

I wore light brown full sleeve top and the same shade of tight pants and a pair of tiger print heels keeping it professional. I didn't have time so I wore blush and mascara and a lip tint. 

Taking my bag I had a toast in my mouth that El prepared and bidding her bye I ran to the bus stop.

Taking the bus, I reached there just before it was 9. Thank god I am not late. I went to the receptionist and she sent me to the 7th floor. I got out of the elevator and God the whole corridor was empty.

There was a huge room I m guessing from the stretching of the long glass wall and 2 tables in front of the room in the hallway . There was a young woman sitting in there I guess she's the assistant. I walked towards her.

Before I could say anything ,she asked

"Are you Liana brown?"

" Yes, I am."  I replied.

She stretched her hand towards me. 

"Hi, I am Gabrielle Lane. I am the assistant of the boss and u will work for me. " 

Shaking her hand, I said it was my pleasure to work for her. I started my day it was nothing difficult but still tiring.. I had to print out copies , clear files, name files , take documents here and there , and make entries of a lot of data in the computer.. My day was going smoothly .

I was entering some data on the computer when Gabrielle told me to take some files to the reception downstairs. I nodded and headed towards the reception .

I handed the documents over and was ready to head back but I half for a moment cause I saw a very expensive car parked outside of the office and a tall guy came out of the car and entered the office with slow and sure steps. 

And my god, he is, I guess, the most handsome man I have ever seen in my life. He is divine. He has black hair, a pair of grey eyes , a chiselled neatly trimmed jaw, and his muscles peeking even through the suit he is wearing.

He is intimidating. My cheeks went red when I realised I was so intimidated by him that I didn't realise all the employees were bowing to him, showing respect. 

He didn't even glance back to them and walked to the elevator. Just when the elevator doors opened, he looked back at something.

Wait, is he looking towards me!!!!!! Is it because I didn't bow to him ???! Before I could react within a second, he got into the elevator and the doors closed. 

Curiosity got the best of me, so I asked the reception girl whose name was Perry. I believe who he was. She looked at me with disbelief in her eyes. 

"That's Edward Knight. The boss of this company." 

" But I thought it was a lady called Rosa Scott, right?" I asked her.

" Um yeah, she managed this branch until she was alive. She died like 10 days ago tragically. So her brother took over this brunch also along with the other branches he had of this company."  

" Owh, that's so sad to hear. May she rest in peace, "I replied, and I headed towards the elevator.

It was lunchtime so I went to the canteen to grab something . When a guy came to me and asked if he could sit on the other seat, that's vacant. Um, sure, I guess.

" By the way, I am Jack, and you are miss?" 

"Owh, I am Liana." 

"I didn't see you at the office before. Which department do you work at?!"

"Um, I am the assistant of the assistant of the boss you see." I replied. 

"I didn't know they hired such a beauty." I gasped. "Thank you, that's so sweet of you." I replied. 

I somehow get awkward when people call me pretty. I always feel they are extra generous or just are lying. We talked for some more while, and then I headed back to the deserted floor. 

Just as I got out of the elevator, Gabrielle rushed to me. 

" Hey, boss called you in his room." Um, why would he call me."You didn't do anything wrong, did you?" She asked. 

" No, I didn't, I guess." 

"Then go and see why he called you."

Um, hm. Standing in front of the door, I felt nervous. I don't know why. My heart was beating rapidly fast.

I pushed the door as I asked, " Sir, may I come in?"

" Come in," a very deep voice replied to me. I got in and was standing in there .  "Take a seat."

I sat on the chair, which was opposite of him before the table. "So your name is ?" 

" Um, it's Liana brown sir," 

I gulped the foam that was forming in my throat in nervousness. He was surely intimidating. 

" You live with your parents?" I looked at him in confusion. Why is he asking me these questions. 

" No, sir, I don't have parents. " 

" An orphan?" 

" Um no sir my mom divorced my dad when I was 3. And for my dad, he went missing when I was 12." 

" Okay," he replied. " You know you don't have enough qualifications to get this job in here." I felt tears forming in my eyes. Is he gonna fire me just after a day at work?!

" But you can have this job temporarily for the next 3 months. I hope you have the skills to prove yourself to get the permanent job here. "

" Thank you, sir. I will try my best." I said, being genuinely thankful. " OK, you can go back now." 

I got up from the seat and tried to open the door, but is it locked or stuck!!! I tried to push the door using my strength, but it didn't open.

Suddenly, I felt someone's presence behind me. I turned back only to find Mr Edward to be standing. He looked down at me, and I took 2 steps back from him and was now standing against the door.

He got closer and kept his hand on the metal handle of the door . I removed my hand from the handle and looked up at him.

He was basically towering over me. I am not that short. I am like 5 feet 6. But he has to be like 6 feet 3 .Suddenly, he bent over a slight and moved his face dangerously near to me. 

So close, I could feel his breath fanning on my earlobe all while his hand on the door handle. He said at a very low voice, " No need to befriend with colleagues other than work." His lips almost touching my earlobe. 

He whispered, " I hope you keep it professional."

With that, he pulled the door all while me slamming to his chest hard. My cheeks heat up with embarrassment. I was pushing the door instead of pooling it . I guess my nervousness got the best of me.

" I am sorry, sir," I apologised for slamming into him. He just nodded. And I all but ran out of the room.
