Ethan
“Yes,” the word came out of his mouth smoothly.
“Dad!”
“Then why are you together. How do you think this is going to work if you don’t?”
I exhaled heavily and run my hand through my hair, turning away from him because I couldn’t handle it anymore.
“Just listen. If your mother was still alive and she came back today to ask for my forgiveness, I could forgive her, because I wouldn’t want to continue hurting because of a grudge when I am not the guilty one. I could do that, but it doesn’t mean I would take her back. She stayed away for twenty years, and I have already moved on. But Patricia is different. I’m not comparing her to your mother or defending her. Cheating is totally wrong, but forgive me. I’m still finding it difficult associating that word with her. I’m hurt because you’re hurt, but I can’t see her as a bad person.
“
PatriciaMy brows dipped as I stared at the place he tapped. He was suggesting I lie right beside him. Was he really okay with that? Or was it just to pamper me for today? When he realised I was hesitating, he smiled and nodded. “I’m being serious, yes. Come closer.”I didn't think much afterwards and just scooted closer, until we were close enough to cuddle. I propped my head on my arm and hugged myself with the other, so I didn't end up ‘mistakenly’ touching him. Sure, he wanted to kiss me earlier, but that spell would've worn off by now.“Stop overthinking. Let's call a spade a spade, alright? She did what she did because she really doesn't like you, and that’s what it is. I know it’s hard to believe, because of how close you two were, but what you saw today is the truth about how she really feels about you. Don't make excuses for her.”I wiped my face to make sure there weren't any te
PatriciaThe rest of the day passed in a blur. Time seemed to be speeding for just today, because so many things happened all at once. It was surreal. A day that started poorly ended with Ethan and I having a meal together, while having an actual fun conversation, one which had nothing to do with our problems, and it was a good break for both of us.Ethan later had to make a conference call, which kept him in his study for a few hours. I took advantage of that and tried to finish some of my own work on my laptop, at least what I could do from home. Now it was night time, and I was huddled up in the bed, trying to start reading a new book. Ethan had just ended his meeting and was taking a shower. I had already taken mine, and reapplied the ointment on my chest- by myself this time. Perhaps, it was because I had been by myself for a while, or because I was once again trying and failing to read a romance book without my conscience laying a heavy load of gu
PatriciaBefore I could’ve cough or hiccup or do anything else to disguised what I had just done, his eyes found mine and they just stayed there. My breath hitched, not prepared for the intensity of his stare. I was surprised. His desire was very evident, unshielded, and it confused me why he wasn’t making any attempt to hide it like I was. I didn’t have to worry about that too much because he halted my thoughts as he stepped closer, his hand dropped to my thigh pushing it apart so he could stand between my legs. In all this he never looked away. His hand travelled lightly from my thigh to my bare waist. I bit my lip inching closer to him. My hands left the counter and planted themselves on his shoulder for better support. As if my actions gingered him, his eyes dropped to my lips and he lowered his head.A lump formed in my throat. He was going to kiss me, and I wanted that to happen. Heck, I had been dying for this kind of intimacy so much
PatriciaI was shirtless once again- well, not completely, as I still had my bra on- and this being the second time today didn’t mean it was any easier. This time, we in the bathroom of our bedroom, with me sitting on the counter while Ethan looked through the cabinets for some ointments. Soon, he’d be standing in front of me, or between my legs. I flushed at the thought. I couldn’t be blamed for the naughty thoughts I was having as it had been months since I had done anything with him that involved talking off my clothes. How was I supposed to stay calm now that he was going to be touching me in places that had turned foreign to him?I gripped the edge of the counter and tried not to swing my legs as it would only make me more anxious. Maybe I should change the subject.“My car,” I called out to him. “We left it at the office.”His eyes that were roaming through the compartments met mine briefly before h
PatriciaHe helped we gather my things and then he took my hand and pulled me out of my office walking at pace that made me have to jog slightly to keep up. I was busy smiling about the fact that he was holding my hand that I couldn’t even worry about it. He was probably still angry from everything, angry on my behalf. I didn’t know how to take it.My smile stopped when we started running into people in the hallway and the lobby. Familiar faces from the cafeteria shamelessly stared at us as we passed, so much so that I could tell they’d rush to the nearest windows to watch us on the car park as well. The embarrassment from earlier seeped in again, and I wondered how I’d show my face tomorrow. They had even seen Ethan carry me to my office, over a common burn- even though that wasn’t the only reason. Jessica had really gone all out today. I had to give it to her.“Do you have something on him? Because no one would
PatriciaEveryone’s attention switched to Ethan as he rushed over to my side, worry stricken. When he got closer and saw Bryce, his eyes narrowed, sending a silent but strict message. They stood tall at the dame height, but Ethan looked more domineering. Bryce stepped back without a word.Ethan immediately turned to me, looking from my stained blouse to my face. His hand found my cheek and wiped my tears as his attention went back to my chest, his face a mixture of confusion and worry. “What happened, Tricia?”That same moment Betty arrived and instantly began shaking salt onto my skin. She was so focused, that she ignored Ethan’s presence there. “This would reduce the effects of the burn.”“Burn?” Ethan mouthed. Betty looked up at him and blinked. He looked away from her and saw Jessica hyperventilating in a corner then traced the coffee stains to her. No one had to tell him what had happened.
