When the Tables Turn

The clock just strikes 12 in the midnight when I heard some gasps in the kitchen.

The lights were still off but the shadows I saw were facing each other that looks more like they’re talking.

“This is ridiculous, Devin. I hate the fact that it is the first time you’re doing it and she isn’t even interested with you as what I can see. Let’s just stop this. There are still many other women who will die for you. I don’t understand why you fall in love with such woman who isn’t part of our circle. I hope you’ll come up to your senses very sooner because I don’t see the real Devin anymore”.

I am trying to stop breathing not to distract them.

So, they are just trying to test if I’ll be jealous with their planned acts.

Well, I am jealous honestly and I hate that mere fact as well.

But hearing this conversation right now, it seems that Devin is making it easier for me to make my quest possible.

I still have a few weeks left so I need to do something already.

“I think you’re right, Melissa. I should just give up on her since she doesn’t even like me at all. You’d been a great friend. Thank you”, he said then hugged her and they proceed to the upper floor.

I let out a deep breath before going back to my room.

My throat lose its interest to have a gulp after hearing them.

The lines he said shook me a little but I know that I can do something about it.

I’ll make sure that he will be mine in the soonest possible time.

I saw five luxurious cars outside the mansion when I peeked through my room’s window.

And I can already hear laughter and loud talks downstairs.

I went down after preparing myself and when I got in the kitchen, I saw the dining area occupied by three men and 2 women aside from Devin and Melissa.

They are talking about random things when I saw one of his male friend threw a glimpse at me.

I just ignored him and helped Miss Portia preparing their food.

“Be careful this time, Avery. These visitors will surely make fun of you if you’ll do something silly”, Miss Portia warned me with a calm look in her face.

“I will bear that in mind, Miss Portia. Thanks for reminding me”, I answered while giving her a smile before serving the food to the dining table.

Everyone got quiet when I placed the food in the table, I feel uncomfortable since all their eyes were on me.

I am about to leave when someone spoke, “Miss, can you lead me to the bathroom?”.

It is the man who I saw looking at me a while ago.

He is good looking and he looks decent as well but the way he stares at me right now sent me a red sign.

“It seems that our Johnny here like your little Missy, Dev”; the woman beside Melissa remarked while giving a teasing smile.

“Let me help you with that, bro. I also need to go to the bathroom”, Devin offered with a serious look in his face.

“If you need anything just call any of us in the kitchen”, I said with a smile before going back to the kitchen.

“Thanks, Avery”; Melissa mentioned with a smile.

This time, her smile was authentic.

And I can see Devin giving me a warning look through my peripheral vision.
