“I need you to file these documents and look over the agenda for next week’s meeting,” Alaric’s boss said.
Alaric looked at the man and said, “I am the financial advisor, not your secretary’s manager. It is not in my job description to do everything else.”
His boss stared down at him and said, “And I am your boss. Do what I say or you can just quit.”
Alaric looked at his boss and sighed. He honestly did not need this job, but it was a pass time.
The man walked away and Alaric looked at the documents his boss left, then put it in the first drawer in his desk.
“I wonder what he will do when he finds out that you like men and not the woman he fancies,” Zuri, the sales manager, said.
Alaric looked at Zuri and shrugged. “Maybe I should quit.”
“And let him win? You should stay here and make his life miserable,” she suggested with a wink.
Alaric smiled without commenting. It was not worth it to work unde
Alaric sat in his office until late again. When his boss returned from lunch, he piled more work up for Alaric to do. It was early morning hours when he returned home to an empty house. He suddenly frowned and remembered that Valentino was staying at a hotel and not in his home. Sighing, he quickly got into the shower and out, then phoned him. “Hello?” Valentino asked, sounding as though he just woke up. “Did I wake you?” He asked as he sat down on his bed. “Mn, did you just get home?” Valentino asked him. “Yes, your visit made things difficult for me,” Alaric said, and pulled on his shorts and shirt. “Sorry for that,” Valentino apologized. “It’s fine. Do you still want to go to the beach?” He asked him while he slipped into his slops. Valentino yawned and got up from bed, “Yes, I still have to give you your card back.” Alaric chuckled and said, “Okay, I will be there shortly after
Alaric lied down beside him and said, “I too had a mate, but he was called husband. I was married to him, but our village was attacked and I ended up here in your world instead of dying.” “Huh?” Valentino asked, confused. He sat up and looked down at Alaric and said, “You need to explain it to me clearly so I can understand. Did you not say we need to get to know one another?” Alaric scoffed and said, “I was part of a race one thousand human years ago. The other races were jealous that we were far advanced than theirs and stole what we cultivated to use against us. I was nothing but a poor man, but my husband was rich and was one of the leading men who had led our race to where it was — he loved me for who I was and even though many said I was useless, he believed otherwise. He always told me that as stressful as his job was, whenever he was with me, nothing seemed to matter.” “He sounds nice,” Valentino said with a smile.
Alaric arrived at work with a cup of coffee in his hand and frowned when he saw two unidentified men at the front desk. They were talking to the receptionist and when she saw him enter; she told the two men, and they turned to look at him. They stared at him for sometime then approached him; one man asked, “Are you Alaric Saint?” “Yes, what seems to be the problem?” Alaric asked. “We received a report that you were seen with a minor outside this building yesterday,” the man said. Alaric’s fists formed at his side, he went over to sit on a chair and looked at them and said, “Okay, since you received the report, I do not mind answering your questions, but first, I want to know who reported me and when because the so-called minor visited me in the late morning hours, why did it take you so long to arrive, are you not worried that he could be dead?” The two men looked at each other, then one said, “We would like to further q
“Do you know how hard it has been without you these past years? The children are all grown up now and need so much attention that I cannot give them because I have to work. A few months ago, I contacted a babysitting agency, and they finally sent someone that the twins love and so do I.”*Koda sat across from an elderly lady and asked, “Do you have kids of your own?”The woman smiled at him as she nodded her head and said, “Yes I do, three boys who are all working.”Koda nodded his head slowly as he heard through the pack link, > I dislike her daddy, she smells funny.Don’t be rude Heather, the two of you keep complaining and it’s annoying! Can’t we just go to aunt’s house? I dislike all these strangers, daddy,“Thank you for coming today. The agency will be in touch with you after the final interview.”“Thank you sir, I am looking forward to wor
“See you tomorrow,” said Helianthus to her father. She ended the call and turned around. The twins were looking at her eagerly. She smiled at them and said, “Okay, you two, time for bed.”“Listen here Sunflower, I don’t want to go to school and I refuse to sleep,” Heather said, all sassy.“Well then, you are going to stay up all by yourself while the rest of us sleep,” Helianthus said and walked off with Briar, who gave her a house tour.Heather turned to her father, who was sitting with his tab on the couch, and said, “Daddy, I don’t like her anymore.”“Too bad and it is too late to change your mind now,” Koda said without looking at her and continued to tap away.Heather huffed and ran after them, finding the horrible two in their father’s bedroom.Helianthus looked around the room and saw a picture of a woman in a frame. And saw that she looked like Heather.Looking down at the twins, she asked as she pointed at the picture, “Who is this?”“Our mother,” Briar answered.“Where is she
Koda arrived home and saw that his children were sitting at the dining table obediently doing their homework. He went over to his kids and kissed them on the cheek and asked, “Why are you children so good today?”They looked at their father, then looked at each other and remained silent, getting back to their work.Koda shrugged it off and went looking for Helianthus and found her in the laundry room sitting on a chair and folding the clothes.“I am back from work,” Koda said.Helianthus yelped as she jumped up from the chair and looked at him, horrified.“Ah, ah, welcome home si, sir,” Helianthus mumbled, afraid.Koda raised a brow and asked, “Did something happen?”Briar came over and hugged his father’s leg and asked, “Daddy, can we go for a run? My legs are itching.”Koda’s eyes shot over to Helianthus, then quickly back to his son and said, >What did I tell you about bringing that up around her?“It is too late, she found out.”Koda’s eyes w
A few days later.Koda woke up to a grumbling stomach. He groaned and turned in bed and his arm hit against a space where Helianthus was supposed to be.He frowned and listened carefully within the house. He heard cutlery falling with a few mumbles and curses. He got up and walked to the kitchen with silent steps and saw that Helianthus was in the kitchen baking. He walked into view and his hoarse morning voice hit her ears, “Why are you up so early?”Helianthus jumped but quickly calmed down and looked at him surprised, “And you, why are you awake? I put you to sleep not too long ago.”Koda turned around and looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was three in the morning and he went to bed around twelve. It would have been later if Helianthus did not force him to stop working and go to bed.He looked back at her and said, “I’m hungry.”Helianthus chuckled and answered his question, “Well, I got the bright idea to bake bread and made muffins and fudge.”Koda nodded his head an
Helianthus was in the kitchen preparing lunch for herself and Koda, who decided that he would stay today and work from home. She was making sandwiches for them when the doorbell rang. She placed the knife down and walked over to the door, and opened it.A beautiful woman was at the door, and she was completely dumbfounded. What was such a beautiful woman doing here?“Hello, can I help you?” She asked after shaking herself out of the daze. The woman looked down at her and smiled. “You must be Sunflower. The brats have been going on and on about you for so long now.”Helianthus raised a brow and asked, “And who might you be?”The woman smirked and said, “How can you not tell? Koda and I look exactly the same. I am just beautiful while he looks like shit.”“I don’t think so,” Helianthus said.“Oh, really?” The woman asked with a raised brow.Helianthus nodded her head and said, “Yes, my husband is handsome.”Kane’s eyes widened as she heard these words, then smirked as she said, “I am sur
