Damien pointed to a white dot on the dark wood. Once I did as I was told, the balls hit the wall of the pool table directly into one of my balls making it roll into the pocket. After I hit my last ball, all that is left is the solid black ball. I hit the white ball into it and watched it go completely past it. “Oops,” I giggled to myself, not thinking any of them heard me. “It is okay, princess.” Logan tried his best to comfort me.

I chuckled at the thought, rising to my feet as well to join an acquaintance at the pool table. I drew out one pool stick and smiled at the man at the other end. He drew the stick and arranged the balls before shooting them. He was an amateur, it was clear. Smiling to myself, I took a turn and sent the farthest ball into one of the holes when I heard my phone buzzing from my breast pocket.

I picked up the room card number and showed him the number and I could feel his expression shift faintly from proud and mighty to realisation. “Ohhhhhhhhh. Holy crap. There was a mix up.” He answered, looking half scared. I blinked at him, my chest rising and falling fast like I just ran a marathon. “A mix up?” I repeated, my voice sharp, my heart hammering in my ears. “That’s your excuse? A fucking mix up?”

Another moment later, Phil appeared by his side. Cecilia immediately bent low over the table, her pool cue poised behind the white ball. What happened next, well, it was so fast, Bev wasn’t completely sure what had happened.
