I turned my head just in time to see him. Aldric. He didn’twalk into the room, he flew in. Hus movements were fast and desperate, like he’d been holding himself together with pure will and it had finally snapped. I could see the exhaustion in his eyes, his hair scattered and disheveled and his shirt a mess, like he’d slept in it… or maybe hadn’t even slept at all.

“They’re gone. Recently.” Aldric inhaled deeply, forcing his senses outward. Damp stone. Old blood. Smoke. And something else. He froze. A scent lingered beneath everything — faint, cool, metallic in a way that made his wolf’s lip curl. Not wolf. Not human. Something ancient. “What is it?” Darius asked quietly, reading his expression. Aldric’s jaw tightened. “Not a rogue,” he said slowly. “Something else was here.” Regina’s breath hitched behind him.

I wondered what age would look like as a grown-up. I clicked on the file Cedric sent. Elsie Fletcher. Twenty four. Parents dead in a car accident. Had a degree in psychology. No criminal record. Blonde hair……Violet eyes….. It finally came together. But how on earth did she end up as Antonio's assassin? I ran my hand through my hair. “Fucking hell” I muttered under my breath. “Alex?” Cedric called. “I have to go” I ended the call and leaned back on my chair.

There was a warmth to it, like it could comfort and command at the same time. "It's fine," Rya responded with a light but controlled chuckle. "We are actually honoured to be invited, and even welcomed to the Lycan Clan in this elaborate manner." Aldric gave off a warm smile, one that proceeded into a wide smile as though he was impressed somehow. "You're most welcome" Aldric said. "My name is Alpha Aldric, as you should have known. I'm certain you've met with Kael, my beta and commander of the Lycan Forces," he said as he pointed at Kael.

“He requested you personally, you know. That does not occur often.” There was no need for him to say who he was, it could only be her Alpha. “I’m not for sale.” Leda spoke out. "This is Aquila, everything and everyone is for sale.” He added. The Whoremonger’s tone was mocking. “It’s only a matter of the price. Maybe yours isn’t measured only in dollars.” She scowled down at him, very aware of the fact that she hadn’t yet walked away. “I don’t understand what you mean by that.” She asked

I took a puff from my tobacco and smiled widely. I looked back at the men behind me and immediately, they rushed to the culprit and pulled the bag off his head. He shook his head aggressively and when our eyes met, I saw his eyes widen in terror. “What? You were not expecting to see me?” I cackled, burying my hands in my pockets as I walked even closer to him. “Please, Alpha Darius. I swear on my late mother’s grave, I had no idea the land was yours. I was just looking for means to feed my family…”

The runes lit up blue, spinning slowly. “Listen,” he said. A voice filtered out, staticky at first. Then clear. “You know how to get in without being detected and how to draw him out, am I right?” A voice asks and then I hear hers: “yes”. “Then strike. If Lorenzo’s still breathing, you haven’t done your job.” Daniel and I locked eyes. “That voice,” I muttered. Sten watched us closely. “Recognize it?” “I do,” I said slowly. “That’s Aldric. He was exiled five years ago. Thought he died in the Reaping Fire.”
