Gunfire filled the air while monster corpses piled up around them. The smell of decay was stronger than ever, thick enough to make an ordinary person sick. Yet neither of them seemed affected by it anymore. After spending so much time in the apocalypse, they had long grown accustomed to such things. Several minutes later, the final monster dropped to the ground. Silence returned. Or at least, that was what they thought. Suddenly.... Rumble! The ground beneath their feet began trembling violently. The unexpected vibration nearly caused both of them to lose their balance. "What the actual fuck?" Darren cursed under his breath as he steadied himself.

I didn’t expect the patch to come so soon. In the second month after the battle, the rooftop radio suddenly crackled to life with a crisp broadcast voice. "The Atlas Geothermal Initiative is now active. Surface temperatures will gradually recover. Rescue is on the way." Rhys and I just stared at each other. So this wasn’t a solo survival game after all. It was online, and the admins had finally logged in. A week later, a military helicopter landed in the open lot. Registration and verification went quickly. The officer in charge clapped me on the shoulder. "Turning the apocalypse into a warehouse operation! You’re one of a kind."

I needed to feed my monsters or there would be consequences. “Hi, handsome. Would you like some company?” I turned and saw an attractive blonde standing next to me. Perfect. I thought to myself. She wasn’t my usual but she would do. So I started my game again. Within thirty minutes she was walking out the door with me. We walked over to my car and I held the door as she climbed in. I smiled to myself as I climbed into the car and drove her to her death. This wasn’t how I wanted the night to end at least not with this woman but it would hold off my demons for now.

The void creatures charged. The King roared back instantly. “FIGHT!” Chaos exploded again. The Lunar Order unleashed waves of moonsteel arrows through the battlefield while shadow creatures collided with void monsters in brutal waves of destruction. The fortress ruins collapsed farther apart. Mountains burned in the distance. Reality itself trembled. And still, the abyss kept rising. Lira grabbed Kael quickly as another violent tremor nearly knocked him down. “You need to rest.” He gave her a tired look. “Bit difficult during the apocalypse.”

~Author’s POV~ "This track is called the Serpent's Back. It's a narrow road that goes up a mountain. There's no fence. Just a big drop off the side. People have crashed here. One guy died last year," Simon said, his eyes shining with amusement. Harriet listened, but she didn't look scared. She was looking at her car, a simple silver Mazda. She touched it. It looked old, but she could tell it had been taken care of. The tires were good. The engine sounded smooth and strong.

As expected, the zombie outbreak was here right on the dot. Screams of terror could be heard coming from various spots in the residential area. Soon, the air was permeated with the heavy stench of rot and copper. "Oh, God!" When Mom witnessed the harrowing scene taking place outside the villa, she let out a scream before collapsing into a dead faint. Despite knowing that the apocalypse would descend upon the world soon, she was still terrified the moment she saw it happening before her eyes. Emmett hugged me from behind. He murmured to me, "Honey, you really suffered a lot in your previous life."

An angry thunder rumbles as she speaks, even the signs imprinted on the wall turn dull like they know we're talking about the forbidden. Her ears twitch and she yawns. "I'm not good with history, but it's believed that Hadies, the forerunner of the deadly pandemic currently ravaging lives, was conquered many years ago and is locked down there amongst others. She cannot be released, Maya, or else we're all doomed!"

Like he might— A knock slammed against the door. Hard. “Problem.” Kai’s voice. Sharp. Urgent. The moment shattered instantly. Dante stepped back. Cold again. Controlled. “Come in.” Kai pushed the door open, his expression darker than before. “We’ve got movement,” he said. “What kind of movement?” Dante asked. Kai’s jaw tightened. “Marcus just disappeared.” My stomach dropped. “What do you mean disappeared?” Luca appeared behind him, already on his phone. “All his accounts are going dark,” he said quickly. “Contacts, locations—everything’s wiped.”
