Chapter Twenty-Two The soft murmur of Aaron’s voice filled the living room, gentle and steady as he read aloud from Liam’s bedtime book. “…And the brave fox crossed the river, knowing his family was waiting for him on the other side.” Liam blinked sleepily, head nestled against Aaron’s shoulder, his tiny fingers clutching the corner of the book. Sofia stood at the edge of the room, arms crossed, heart hammering painfully in her chest. This wasn’t how tonight was supposed to go.

I reached out, my hand trembling as I touched the glowing book. The moment my fingers brushed the cover, a surge of energy rushed through me, and I gasped. The voice that had been calling my name now filled my mind, clearer than ever before. “You are the key, Aurelia… the heir to the bloodline… the one destined to awaken the Nine Wolves…”

It was slightly heavier than the others, and as she peeled away the layers of tape and folded back the cardboard, her eyes landed on something that made her lips curve into a smile. A Canine Musketeers book. Its cover gleamed with an emerald sheen, the illustration playful and inviting. A cartoonish German shepherd stood poised with a sword in its mouth, facing off against a husky, their blades exaggeratedly long and dramatic. Lila swallowed hard. Aaron loved this series. It was the very first thing they had talked about when he and Winnie had wandered into the bookstore the day they met. Her throat tightened, and before she could stop it, a tear slipped down her cheek. She inhaled sharply,

I say with a shrug. He hums and lowers his eyes from my breast down and stops before leaning his head down and kissing the area of my skin just above my panties. My legs try to close, the muscles in the stomach tighten and I squeeze my eyes shut trying to keep myself from making a sound. Because…wow…that small touch got a big reaction. “Blue.” Artemis’s voice has that low rumbling sound that he gets when he first wakes up and I hate it right now. I don’t know why I’m trying so hard to fight this, but it feels weird not to. Like maybe I shouldn’t enjoy this, but I’m not sure why.

I narrowed my eyes and sigh. “The curious cuckoo cupid downstairs–it’s most uncommon for creatures to draw so near and bother you, don’t you think…” Aeon’s voice trailed off as he tap his hand on his chin, looking like he was deep in thought. “What do you mean? What has this got to do with that stupid cupid?” I pushed the scroll back and take the book that has gold linings from his desk. Whoa! The author exerted much efforon making this book, but haven’t thought much about giving it a proper title.

“I can’t tell you why. I just need you to believe me when I say it’s for your own good. Ok?” I nod, feeling like I’m lying to him without words. There’s another shrill cawing sound, and the flap of wings as a bird – a raven, I think – flies out of the forest, alighting on a red-leaved branch in the tree behind Felix. “Good,” he says, giving a sideways glance to the raven. “Listen carefully Ash. There’s a ring. A silver ring, in the shape of a serpent biting its own tail.” My blood runs cold; my heart skips a beat.

I called to him. He stopped and nodded at me from over his shoulder and walked out the door leaving it slightly open. I held the jar up and inspected its contents. It’s an awful green booger looking glob and smells like mouldy tree moss. Whispering in the foyer caught my attention, so I put the jar down and leaned forward, trying to listen “Too quickly” was Artemis’ voice, “What do you mean it was too quick how is that possible?” it sounded like Roe, Gunner's mum,

he spoke cautiously, studying me. “Is there anything you would like to tell me about him, your relationship, perhaps?” a book caught my attention, ‘Alpha Artemis of the waterfall pack,’ it was written on it. I had the feeling of deja vu, I had seen something similar, different names. ‘The Snowmoon pack,’ I remembered the name Rachael had mentioned. That was the name of my pack, that name rang a bell, and soon after all the dots were connecting. My first night here or the second, I couldn't guess but I had stumbled across a book in the library that belonged to Artemis, where I first saw the name, ‘The Snowmoon pack, Alpha Demitri of The Snow Moon pack,’ that, exactly how it was written.

He is right about that but this is different and new to me. "You guys coming or not?" Sebastian's voice startles me making me hide behind Gabriel. Sebastian chuckles before he shifts running away. I have come to realise what Dahlia meant by too much wolf in the house. Basically everything smells like wolf. Everything about me has changed. I can literally hear all the chirping of the birds like they are so near. I can hear the wood pecker by the waterfall. When I look into the woods, I can see the snail climbing up the tree far from where we are.

Aleka's pov I freshened myself up near the stream,placed my silver knifes on the sides of my boots,pulling up my black hoodie over my face and placing my bow and arrows on my back Ready for my journey. I had only covered a few meters when I hear a child crying and some people laughing near her. I continued my journey ignoring her cries but after a few steps something was pricking my conscience. I knew what it was. My heart wanted to help her but my brain stated otherwise. I turned around thinking that i'll help her quickly and return back to my journey. When I went near the voices I saw a beautifull little girl with large green eyes crying and 3 rogues surrounded her
