I was deluded into thinking I needed to prove myself and earn your love. 'It wasn't until after my death that the veil fell off. I realized now that you've never loved me. 'I was a fool, and look what it had cost me.' The first thing Connor did upon waking up was remove all the tubes attached to his body before storming out the door. He had taken just one step out the door when a guard, whom his family had stationed outside his room to keep an eye on him, stopped him. "Sir, your parents have instructed me not to let you leave this room."

DAMIEN I wake up to the sound of waves crashing against the shore, a rhythmic reminder of the paradise we’re supposed to enjoy. My eyes flutter open, and for a moment, I’m disoriented. The room is filled with light, the curtains billowing softly in the breeze. I sit up, feeling the weight of the previous night’s decisions settle heavily on my chest. The bed is empty beside me, as it has been for the past few nights.

Sam I wake up feeling uneasy before my alarm goes off. There’s a feeling in my stomach that I can’t shake, like something is terribly wrong. I sit up quickly and try to make sense out of my room. It’s still dark outside. I pat on the bed, searching for Theo, and his absence scares me. He never wakes up before I do, not even when I sleep in on Sundays.

****** the next morning ****** I wake up to the smell of fresh baked bread, eggs and bacon. It’s smells lovely. I heard a knock on the door. Before I could answer, the door flew open. “Wake up sleepy head, smell this, I think breakfast is ready.” I open my eyes and growl a little. “Come on get dressed otherwise all the good food is already gone before we’re down there.”

June I wake up before the world does. There is no sound outside my room. No footsteps. No voices. Not even the soft hum of movement that usually lives inside buildings full of people. Just quiet and the faint awareness of my own body reminding me that I pushed it too far. I groan and roll onto my back, staring up at the ceiling. Everything hurts.

Emma's Point of View The shrill sound of my alarm tore through the early morning silence, pulling me from restless dreams into the harsh light of reality. I groaned, slamming my hand down on the snooze button before reluctantly rolling out of bed. My muscles ached, a dull reminder of the tension from yesterday. After a quick stretch, I sat up and muttered a short prayer under my breath. God knows I would need it.

I vaguely felt someone rubbing the bruising on my right hand while I was half-conscious. "What do you mean he got into a car accident, and that three critical-condition notices were issued? Is this a lingering effect? It seems like the wound on the abdomen is slightly infected. "I'll head out for a while. Have the nurse hurry with the anti-inflammatories and change the dressing. Go turn up the AC and get the IV heater in here." I pried my eyes open with effort, meeting a gaze full of worry. "D-Delilah?" Delilah replied, "I'm right here, so just go back to sleep, Tristan. You'll feel better once you've rested."

I walked toward her, my reflection in the glass floor making it look like I was walking on water. ​"You didn't graduate me," I said, leaning down until we were eye-to-eye. "You underestimated me. You thought I would be a victim forever, but Malakai didn't just take me—he woke me up. And now that I’m awake, I realized that the only thing more dangerous than a man with a gun is a woman who has nothing left to lose."
