A mix of blood and pus hung heavily in the air. Using a hand to cover her nose and mouth, the ghastly sight of dead fish is all Journee could see. Some were bloated three times their original size with eyeballs half hanging out of its sockets. A few with gnarly gash lines on their fins and across their gills. Struggling to stay afloat the right side up, a few orange and white koi had extra-large bumps on their backs. On the few fishes who had their entrails exposed to the sun, maggots had started feasting and growing in number.

Zoe’s pov I swim deeper into the underwater ruin. The water feels cold around me. Old stone walls cover in green algae. My flashlight beam cuts through the dark. I see a big crack in the floor. I try to swim over it. But my foot slips. I fall through the crack. Water rushes past me as I drop. I hit a deeper chamber. Bubbles rise from my mouth. I kick to swim up. Something grabs my ankle. It's slimy and cold. I look down. A thick tentacle wraps around my leg. It's green and covered in slick mucus.

I followed her in, but a white dog named Bubbles immediately sniffed my feet. I froze, fearing it might bite. “Don’t worry, Bubbles is friendly,” she said with a smile. I called the dog’s name, and it happily wagged its tail. We headed to the porch, where she called out to her daughter. Soon, Lily appeared—about the same age as Giselle, with curly hair, brown skin, big eyes, and full lips. A doll-like brat vibe, but serious eyes. “Lily, is there still a room available?”

I imagine everything he said, my legs fusing together and becoming one big fish tail, a fluke. I start feeling it happen and it is like a burning sensation, I almost fall to my knees but Blake catches me and holds me up, the pain continues and five minutes later, I have a green tail the color of my eyes. I cannot stand upright without Blake holding me up, I continue imagining growing gills to help me breathe underwater and I feel my neck opening up and when I touch it with my hand, I feel gills.

“Not I know about. They have a thing called a gill around their neck. I am sure they breathed like any other fish.” Pink looked intrigued. “And they breathe with their noses when they are on the surface?” “I think so, yeah.” “... fascinating.” Blue scoffed and rose once again. “Now, off you go. We can get an early rest.” Saying nothing, Pink ascended quickly to the sky. “I’ll take the two small naval ships at the back. You focus on this one. Then, we can get a rest, Lord Blue Bunny.” Her face felt like she hated the thoughts, though.

She makes a jerky motion and he jumps back, eyes wide in surprise. “Oh, is that confidence or mischief I hear?” “Both. Always both.” When they finally descend, everything changes. The world goes quiet below the blue water. The ton of bubbles coming out of their gear, the pretty way the light catches the pretty colors down there, it’s surreal and almost unearthly. Fish in every color imaginable swim by, unbothered by their presence. Gold fish, blue fish, yellow fish, pink fish, rainbow colored fish, black… stay away from those ones, they look dangerous.

My stomach flips. Where, in bloody hell, are we now? With the lighting, I take a proper look at the 'person' that dragged me in here, and instantly, I regret it. It is NOT a person at all. It’s got duck’s feet. Webbed and filthy, stomped through slime. Its arms? Of course, it's chicken feet! Thin, gangly like bent twigs, and ending in those hideous claws. But the worst of it, the absolute worst, is its head.

"Yes I know Rayna, but I haven’t seen any gill like mark on my skin to show that I’m breathing properly. I pointed out to her. She rolled her eyes at me and face palmed in my mind. I smiled at her. " Look at the inside of elbows." she requested and I obliged, turning my hand to look. The inside of my elbows had very tiny breathable slits. I stared at them in awe, I have never seen this before. "You have this tiny slits in different hidden spots all over your body. They are not visible until you're completely submerged under water, because that's when you need them.

’ Nova sounded dejected while saying that. “No, I don’t.” After hissing from the pain I tried hiding the book again. Although my foot was still throbbing from the pain I was able to perform the ritual successfully. ‘You’re finally here!’ I jumped on the bed where Nova was sitting on and sighed. ‘Wait, did you grow bigger again?’ I raised my head and looked at the white fluff sitting on. He also grew small feet that’s half the size of my thumb. Nova’s feet looked like a puppy’s small paws, it didn’t have claws and the footprint is very different unlike standard animals.

’ I informed her. Urei nodded and moved her head a few feet over me. Then a bubble started to emerge from her lips that she pressed down towards me. The bubble formed a protective dome around me that allowed me to breathe air. ‘I am aware that some of your friends cannot breathe water or communicate like you and I. This area should help with that.’
