Something about their rough, hoarse masculine voice falling into rhythm of laughter made it funny. “What’s the time?” I enquired as we walked out of the theatre.

He completely took my mind off Aiden and Anna and made me enjoy the movie and before I knew it, the movie ended and my stomach aching from laughing so hard. "I've never seen a movie this good," I said, feeling kind of lightheaded from laughing so hard. "You should see the hangover too, it was so damn good, we should see it sometimes," He said as we walked out of the room first, talking non-stop about the scenes laughing so loud all the way, completely getting lost in the moment, my mouth ran a mile, talking out freely like I never before when I once again heard the train sound from behind, turning my attention to it.

The sentence dies in my throat. We spend the first half of the film demolishing snacks and laughing at the ridiculous sound effects. The movie is creepy enough to make me jump every now and then, and each time I do, Rhys bursts into laughter because either I spill popcorn all over my lap or splash the drink on my face. “You’re terrible.” “And you are a scaredy cat,” he retorts. Like actually laughing, throwing his head back with blood all over his mouth and that split lip curling like some kind of nightmare clown, laughing so hard it made the whole forest feel haunted, like the villains in those movies who know they’re about to lose but want to go out making the hero doubt every single thing he believes in.

The playful exchange, though brief, was enough to momentarily ease the unease Dean had been feeling. Dean's laughter rang out unexpectedly, cutting through the oppressive atmosphere like a beam of sunlight piercing through a darkened room. It wasn’t funny but it was whatever it was and it makes me laugh. I just needed to laugh. It rolls out of me effortlessly, like everything was with Adam. While I choke on my saliva, he watches me, amused for the duration of my chuckling.
