The night was cold, and I feared they would catch a cold, but they began to cry out loud on the road. People began to stare, so I had gotten them the ice cream. When they got home, I prepared for them a nice warm shower, and dressed them, making them ready for bed. “I'm craving a bedtime story, Mommy.” Nadia said, as I tucked them in. “I'll tell you one tomorrow. I'm exhausted, okay? What do you think about two bedtime stories tomorrow?” I asked, as a bribe. “Oh yeah! I want Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty.”

Nathaniel said. “Another one! Another one!” Sebastian requested. Alisa nodded with a smile. “You want another story, Ali?” Nathaniel asked his daughter. Alisa nodded. “I can’t hear you, baby.” Alisa swayed her body at first, then spoke. “Another one!” Nathaniel chuckled, pinching Alisa’s cheek lightly. “Good girl.” They hadn’t seen Serena yet, so they eagerly listened to another story. The last book Nathaniel read was 'Goodnight Moon.' It was the perfect story to get them ready for bed. As he read, he changed his tone and pointed to the items mentioned in the book. By the time he was done, the kids were satisfied.

he whispered, his voice barely louder than a breath, "can you read me a bedtime story, please?" A tender smile graced my lips as I reached for the book he kept besides him.I settled down on the edge of his bed, and the words flowed from my lips as I read about adventurous journeys and brave heroes. Noah's eyelids grew heavier, his breaths steadier, and I knew he was drifting off to sleep. Closing the book gently, I leaned down to give him a gentle kiss on the forehead. His muttered softly, "Thank you, Princess Nanny." I gave a wide smile and I rose from my seat, dimming the overhead light and leaving his bedside lamp aglow.

I guided him into my rooms and changed him into his night time clothes. “Can you read to me, mama?” he asked, and I smiled with a nod. He opened the nightstand cabinet to pick from the row of children’s books I read to him each night. He chose a fairytale one about a prince and a princess. As I read to him the story about the prince saving the princess, something seemed to resonate on his face. When the story was over, and I flipped to the last page about the prince and the princess moving into the beautiful palace to live happily ever, he looked up at me with a grin.

"Because I wanted to be close to you and have access. I had limited resources. Especially once I moved into the castle. There are eyes everywhere. It was difficult to accomplish the cleansings even with being so close to you." "The cleansings?" Eliana gulps as she eyes the woman, "What—" The Princess does not want to believe any of this. Has her life not been disrupted and in chaos enough? What is she to do? She wants to cover her ears and pretend that the woman that has raised her from an infant is not saying any of this right now. She clenches her jaw. How much more can she take? The maid's voice settles, "Simple. I took action when deceit was afoot."

I remember taking her face in my small hand as I asked, "What is wrong?" "Nothing, my sweet Aurora. Something I hope you never understand. Now I believe I owe you a story." I eagerly would get under the covers and snuggle up close as she would braid my hair. Then she would open a small blue book titled, Fairytales for Fairy Princesses. "Once upon a time, there was a beautiful fairy princess," "I already like this story." "I know you do," she winked and kissed the top of my head. "Most of her life, the princess was protected by high towers, walls, and secret magic.”

He tried to soften his usual cold and deep voice, so he slowed down again, “One day, a little mermaid...” “Daddy, don’t you know how to tell stories?” The little girl flattened her lips as she muttered, aggrieved, “Nellie’s Daddy is so powerful, but he can’t tell stories...” Joshua fell silent as he sucked in a deep breath. “Let’s not listen to stories. Just go to sleep, okay?” “Not okay…” Tears started to roll down the Little Princess’s cheeks. “If I don’t listen to a story, I’ll get nightmares…”

She mumbles, her eyes opening just a crack. “Get some sleep, Princess. I am just finishing up some work.” I answer softly, running my fingers through her hair. She hums, her eyes closing again, and in seconds she is fast asleep once more. I want to curl up on that couch with her and hold her tight, but I put off work last night to help her and if I want to spend more time with my Princess later, I will need to get it done tonight before we head home.

she said softly, her voice carrying a soothing cadence, "Just close your eyes and sleep." Nathan's insistence couldn't be deterred, his determination rooted in the unquenchable curiosity of childhood. "Mommy," his voice held a pleading note, "You promised to tell me a story." The familiar request was laced with a gentle insistence, his trust in her storytelling a source of comfort. "The Princess and the Beast," he reminded her, his eyes hopeful and eager, "Tell me, Mommy."
