I could see a man inside—lean, dark, like a panther waiting in the shadows. He was looking away, his hand pressed to his mouth as he let out a ragged, muffled cough.

I pushed the door open and stepped inside and the first thing I saw was him. Of course. Chance Black. Sitting at the far end of the bar, back straight, shoulders squared, one hand wrapped around a glass. He was dressed in black again. Always black. Sleeves rolled just high enough to show the edge of a tattoo, hair pushed back from his face, eyes sharp. I froze for half a second. Then I muttered under my breath. “Of course he’s everywhere I go.”

Blake rasped “ Two cars were burnt and the occupant of the other car was recognized to be Brian Simeon…do you know who that man is…” “ I don't care. Bye” Blake cut Lea off and ended the call. “ Who is this other guy?” Blake mumbled and logged in back to check the news of the other car. Blake's research was cut short when his phone started buzzing even after many attempts to ignore it, he finally picked. “ Why the hell are you blowing my phone off?” Blake snorted after he checked the caller “ Sir…your video is everywhere…” His P.A rasped and he frowned.

Blake told him and Carlos eyes widened as he glance at the laptop. "What crime Blake, what crime?" Carlos asked without hesitation, his eyes wide with curiosity. "He murdered someone." Blake told him and a cold washed over Carlos. "Who?" Carlos was stunned in place and his eyes only flashed at the laptop as he saw Triffany slowly down, possibly arriving at the meeting place Jimmy had sent to her. "The truck driver from three years ago." Blake said from the other side of the line and Carlos throat dried up. "It seems he acquired a gun illegally, he is armed and dangerous."

He is so near, just like the night before. I blink, many times. “Nothing.” I sound like I swallowed a frog. Blake chuckles before returning to his seat and placing his hands on the steering wheel. Then, his expression changes. It changes to something dark and unfathomable. One minute he was laughing and smiling and the next, he is brooding and menacing. “Take out the contacts from the dashboard and put them on,” he barks an order. The engine roars to life and the garage door automatically opens, letting in the glory of the morning rays shine into the car.

Rosette’s POV Midnight. The perfect time for endings. And beginnings. The car slowed two blocks away from the Eden Institute. From the outside, it looked exactly like what it claimed to be—clean glass walls, polished steel, soft lighting glowing like a sanctuary of knowledge and progress. A lie. A beautiful, carefully constructed lie. “Last chance to rethink this,” Blake said from the driver’s seat, his voice tight. I didn’t look at him. “Drive.” A pause.
