•• Charlotte’s POV ••• We reached the group and Hayden spoke up first. “I’ll be the referee of this fight and there are some rules to be followed. First, the fight must be in human form. Second, this will be a hand-to-hand combat with no weapons allowed. Third, this is not going to be a fight-to-the-death fight. Whoever knocked down the opponent first will be the winner,” he set down the rules. “Any questions?” “No? Then let the first fighter enter the ring and the rest retreat.”

Two vampires opened his cage and grabbed him as they drugged a fighting Calvin to the ring. Tossing him in, they slammed the door shut and then went and got his challenger. “The first fighter has been with us for a few fights now and has proven to be undefeatable! His challenger is new to the club, so let’s review the rules. Rule number two, because we all know rule number one.” Everyone laughed at his joke. “Rule number 2: Everything is fair game. You fight till one dies.”

Then he continued, “Now, for the rules of engagement. There are no weapons, shifting, nor dirty fighting. It must be a clean fight. Even if death arises, it must be fair. If there are underhanded tricks to win the fight, then the person committing the offense will automatically forfeit the fight and lose the battle. Understood?” In unison we both said yes. “Good. Fight!” Crane said, stepping back quickly. Alpha Perry lunges at me and I duck to the side. Let him get some of his energy out. It will give me a chance to study his foot work. A scribe stepped forward and read from a parchment. “You are allowed to knock out your opponent,” the scribe announced. “You are not allowed to kill. You are not allowed to grievously injure.”

I watched as the boys picked their partners and fought, each wanting to impress. “Never give in. Never give in. On the day of the ceremony for the selection of the next Alpha, the elders had given one rule: "A fight to the death." We knew it was going to come to this: the last fight. My breath came in quick bursts as I tried to find an opening. “Come on,” Kellan hissed, his lips curling into a smirk. “Show me what you’ve got.” I grit my teeth, feinting left before delivering a powerful kick to his knee. He stumbled but recovered quickly, his smirk replaced by a snarl. The fight dragged on, each of us landing brutal blows. My body ached, but I refused to give up. This wasn’t just about me—it was about the countless lives depending on me, I would have defeated them easily but the rules says no powers.
