I had to forcefully tear my gaze away from Connor to face the redheaded man. “Nice to meet you,” he said, about to raise his hand,“Im-” He suddenly broke off and I noticed his nose twitching. He had finally caught my scent. “You're a-” “Rogue. Yes.” I clenched my jaw as I forced a small smile. The man looked lost for words. I couldn't see anything on his features apart from utter shock, proving that He seemed stunned at the sight of me. It wasn't a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what happened after.

His green eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint, but there was an edge to his smile that made me uneasy. “Well, well,” he said, his gaze sweeping over us before settling on me. “This must be the infamous group stirring up trouble in my territory.” “Who are you?” Rigel demanded, his tone low and threatening. The stranger tilted his head, as if considering whether to answer. “Adrian,” he said finally, flashing a grin. “Rogue hunter. And you’re welcome, by the way. Those creatures? Taken care of. You’re safe for now.” “How do we know you’re not lying?” Rigel’s grip on his blade didn’t falter, his body coiled like a spring ready to snap.

They tumbled together in a savage whirl of teeth and claws. Veyra crawled backward, heart racing, watching as the newcomer pinned the rogue down and delivered a swift, merciful bite to the throat. Blood soaked into the earth. The rogue stilled. The silver wolf shifted. And standing before her was a man she didn't recognize. He was tall and lean with tousled dark blond hair and striking amber eyes. Dirt streaked his jaw, and a faint scar cut across his cheekbone. His clothes were travel-worn—he looked like a wanderer.
