Tobias kicked, punched, ducked, twisted, like some martial arts god dropped into the wrong storyline. “What… the hell?” I whispered, eyes wide. Another man tried to ambush him from behind, but Tobias spun and took him out with a flying knee to the chest. I just stood there, jaw practically unhinged, trying to process what I was seeing. “Is this… a movie?” I muttered to myself. “Am I in a film? Did someone cast me as the clueless hostage without telling me?” I glanced around for cameras. Boom mics. Anything. Nothing. Then I saw one of the men reaching into his jacket...and my blood ran cold.

There were centaurs, fairies, djinns, wizards and many other mythological creatures living in hiding and ready to defend the world as they once did. Reminded of them made Lars slightly relieved and hopeful, that at least this world has a fighting chance. Still, Lars wished he could do more himself. He wanted to be out there defending the world but at the moment, La Shania Mirepa needed him and his Scion comrades more. Although she was exhausted, the light in her eyes shone like stars. I was captivated by the starlight in that girl's eyes. I took it anyway, and instinctively peeled away the brightly colored wrapper. The weather was hot, so the lollipop had melted a little, yet it still had the usual cheap taste as it hit my tongue. When I regained consciousness, I was standing in an entirely new world. A familiar male voice echoed beside me. “Thank you, Olivia. It’s thanks to you that we can continue our experiment. We admire your kindness, your forgiveness, and your calmness. We formally invite you to become an interdimensional traveler. As your reward, you will be able to travel across different worlds and live different lives. None of your emotions will ever be punished by the System.” The next second, a communication screen appeared in front of me, and I was successfully connected.

He replied. " That is huge, this still feels like a movie to me. These things only happen in movies." I muttered. "Movies tell real-life stories in humorous ways. Yours is to find it." He replied, " Do you need another?" He asked and I shook my head. " Are there other things that seem unreal to you in movies?" I scoffed, " Like supernaturals, vampires, werewolves, witches, elves and the rest. Total balderdash." I chuckled and stopped laughing when I saw his countenance.

It gestured—or the code lines around its hands flared in a way that communicated the same. In the air between us, a ripple opened. Two branching streams of imagery unfolded like tangled holographic trees. On one side: the scenarios it had already shown. Corvin human and whole in some hospital room. Jax with his family. Maria is alive. My parents with my book. On the other: worlds. Endless worlds. A warped graveyard. A darker arena city. A carnival with sharper teeth. New environments I didn’t recognize yet—icy wastelands, burning towers, oceans full of reaching hands.

But they weren’t always that way. Dead Worlds were worlds that served the stage for battles amongst the gods. These were worlds that were once thriving and brimming with life, but had been destroyed after constantly hosting the wars of powerful gods and Origin Artefacts. These were worlds that failed to survive during the Chaotic Era. One of these worlds was Alr. Alr was more desolate than any other world in the universe. There wasn’t a patch of grass or a well of water in the entire planet. It was the true definition of the word barren.
