I put Flutter down on the bed and try to bring her closer to my chest, but she squeals and flies away to the ceiling. "Flutter! Come back!" I cry, desperate to bring my mate back so I can talk to her. She squeals in response and starts flying around all over my room. Dammit... I sigh in frustration. That's when it comes to me. I remember the time when I was a kid and Alice used to lure crows and pigeons with food. Maybe that'll work with Flutter too? I scramble to my kitchen and grab a handful of bread crumbs, then come back into the room, trying not to move too quickly since she seems scared of sudden movements. Fubs stopped it's thrashing and bolted out of my sight.

“I’ve got to get out of here, and the door is locked.” The trio scurry over to me. I lay my palm on the floor and they climb up so I can pet them with my other hand. “I wish that you could help me.” Before I even get the full sentence out, all three of them scamper out of my hand and disappear under the door. Confused, I lie down on the floor and peer under it. I see them running up the wall next to the door where they disappear from my sight. A second later, I hear a jingling sound, and then my mice friends reappear–carrying something.

As the tears continued to fall, I fell asleep grabbing my ribs in pain. It felt like I was only asleep for a few minutes when a squeaking noise woke me up. I looked around and found a mouse in a sitting up position staring at me from the floor. I looked at it with curiosity and reached my hand with the cast on it and the mouse sniffed my bare fingers, then jumped up on my hand. I smiled and mumbled, “Looks like I have a pet. Little pet, would you help me when she comes down to beat me?” I smiled at it, petting it with my good hand. I was surprised that it hadn’t run from me and it was letting me touch it. I smiled, “You are so cute.”

The chipmunk offers Banks a thumbs-up. Banks returns the gesture. They know each other! Trent yells at us. Must be Detective Mott in that costume, we say. Where else would her partner be? Trent’s brainstem crackles with shock, and we give the well-worn dopamine gland a little pinch. Miracle of miracles, relaxation juice squirts out, calming Trent enough to keep him useful for the time being.

And on the front porch stood Krishna, with all my sisters behind her. She looked at me with a stoic expression. "Finders, keepers!" I shouted at her. Her brows furrowed, obviously confused. I smirked and continued walking. I'm not letting her resurrect the Great Witch. And the only way, is finding the golden trinket first. I turned my back to the mansion I once called home and grabbed the keys to my black mini cooper car. It’s time to finally feel freedom and blend into the crowd of humans in the city.

I hear him running on the left side of the level , and so I proceed to walk that way. "I hope you have not broken anything , you little stinker" I say to Fluffy under my breath. I continue walking , silence is filled in the passage way. I turn a corner and see an ornament lying on the ground , with a fluffy squirrel's head stuck in the opening. I begin to laugh , tears almost falling from my eyes as I realize that that squirrel is none other than Fluffy. His butt and tail is all that is visible, and he wiggles and twists and turns trying to escape the grip of the ornament.

This was her living room, and this was Whiskerton, their silent bond a comforting constant. She pulled out a small toy mouse, a crumpled ball of pink felt, and dangled it in front of him. His amber eyes gleamed with predatory playfulness. With a sudden burst of energy, he pounced, batting the toy across the carpet with a series of swats and playful lunges.

"Is there something else you want to say?" The mouse nodded eagerly, its whiskers twitching with excitement. With a sense of determination, it scampered over to a nearby patch of grass, where it began to perform a series of... dances? Exercise? No, pantomimes! At first, I struggled to make sense of its movements, but as I watched more closely, a pattern began to emerge. It seemed as though the mouse was trying to convey a message – a message of urgency and importance.
