Her Dying List

Her Dying List

"Talaga 'nak? Alam n'ya ba na birthday mo? Ano ang ihahanda ko? Gusto ba niya ng crema, salad, spaghetti, palabok...."

I answered while chewing the fishball filled with sauce. She looked at me and asked with a smile, “Seriously?” I smiled at her even though I felt embarrassed and I nodded ‘yes’. She bought two sago and gulaman. The man put it in a plastic cup and she gave it to me. I tried to take a sip and feel the texture of the sago and the gulaman. Their colorful and yet tasteless texture is so soft on the tongue. I wonder what this one is made of? Our food costs P100.00 only for the two of us with two sago and gulaman juice included. It is enough to save two persons from hunger in a moment especially if the person is on a low budget. I don’t even get full because I don’t feel hungry. I enjoy the food, e

Uncontrollable Ability: The Academy

I almost closed my eyes when they started to scoop the sabaw sa ulam. "Woah." "Vex..." Liel said beside me. She innocently asked. "Nilagang baboy, hindi ba masarap? Sorry 'di kasi ako pro-" "No! This is good! Much better than eating puro dry and veggy foods." She said then took another bite.

Avoiding “THANK you so much sa palibre mong lunch huh, Nessa? Hayaan mo, bukas papasalubungan kita ng Ube Pastillas ng lola ko,” wika niya dito habang palabas na sila sa isang affordable restaurant ng mga empleyado na katulad nila. “Wow. Ube, favorite ko `yun. Talaga, dadalhan mo ako bukas?” Namimilog ang mga mata nito.

SOFT CURVES

SOFT CURVES

She sighed, closing the magazine and holding it to her chest, allowing herself a brief moment of longing before tucking it away, along with the memories it had stirred. Pampanga is a province in Central Luzon, famously known as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines. Its rich culinary heritage, passed down through generations, is celebrated not just locally but across the country. For Isla, the mention of Pampanga always brought a sense of pride and nostalgia. It was her home, the place where her dreams were born and where her story with Vincent began. Seeing Vincent in the magazine reminded her of how deeply their shared roots were tied to this province, where food was more than just suste

My P.I Lady

Well, that's another story to tell! Good thing he was kind enough to tightly hug me as we rolled down to that part of the forest. Rolling down as in pababa sa mas maputik at mas masukal pang mga damo sa baba.

Unheard Feelings

Unheard Feelings

We picked up our belongings and went to our new room. We arranged the equipment in our new room because we still have the last subject. We have baking today and we will make butter cookies. We also baked before but it was an epic fail. We baked pandesal. Pandesal is a common bread roll in the Philippines. Usually, pandesal serves in the morning for breakfast and in the afternoon for merienda. Our group did it well but there are some groups that the finished product is just like a stone because of the hardness. The shape is similar to a computer mouse. So funny. #EPICFAIL Butter cookies are easy to bake because we have experience doing it when we were in 8th grade. The ingredients are simple

Selene High

Minutes had passed and I can already smell the aroma of Eula's adobo, her famous Philippine dish. "You smell that, Pula? Hmm... your mommy is a great cook, huh? You must be the luckiest dog in the world." I said and kissed her. "Let's eat!" My eyes twinkled and put some dog food on Pula's bowl. But I frowned when she refused to eat it. "What's wrong?" I asked. "She doesn't like dog foods. She prefers my dish." Eula said boastfully and put a mixed adobo and rice to her plate.

I recently finished reading 'Palayok: Philippine Food Through Time,' and the ending left me with such a warm, nostalgic feeling. The book wraps up by tying together centuries of culinary evolution, showing how Filipino food isn’t just about recipes—it’s about resilience, identity, and community. The final chapters highlight modern interpretations of traditional dishes, like chefs reinventing 'adobo' or 'sinigang' with global techniques while staying true to their roots. It’s a celebration of how food carries stories, from pre-colonial clay pots to today’s fusion kitchens.

The author leaves readers with this beautiful reflection on how every bite is a connection to the past. I loved how they emphasized that Filipino cuisine is alive, constantly adapting yet never losing its soul. Personally, it made me crave my lola’s 'kare-kare' while appreciating the creativity of younger generations pushing boundaries.
