And then I thought I heard him moan, but it was so quiet, it might have been something else.

I swipe at my something stinging my left eye and realize I'm bleeding. I hear squealing tires just before the sound of an enormous impact, steel tearing, glass shattering, followed by an eerie silence. Closer to the source of the noise, I can pick out the tick-tick-tick of the engine cooling in the January air, the hiss of steam from the radiator.

Tilting my head to the side, I try to listen with my other sense but with the loud music and various laughter going off here and there, it would be impossible to make out anything from the noise. Shaking my head, “it’s probably nothing” I say out loud but no one heard me because no one is paying me any attention. Inhaling for calm, I take a deep breath which got stuck in my lungs. What…? I inhaled again, deeper this time. Wow.

I take a breath as I start to whistle. I kept increasing the pitch until I could roughly hear what was around me like a bat in a cave. I then use my high-speed magic and ram him against the wall. "* Groans* Listening won't save you again!" He shouts as he increasing the sound of the wind, the smell of lotus stings my nose which breaks any form of focus I can master since all I can think of is how itchy my nose is. This is hopeless. ... I have no choice but to use it...

It was the noise. I could hear the city—not just the distant sirens or the faint hum of traffic that usually penetrated the high-rise glass. I could hear the distinct thump of the helicopter landing on a rooftop three blocks away. I could hear the quiet whir of the internal air filtration system in the ceiling above me. I could hear the low, rhythmic drip of a faucet in the kitchen annex two hundred feet away. I need to close the windows. Is the glass reinforced? Why is everything so loud?

Every sound overlaps, collides, and nothing is in sync. Tires hiss on the street outside, rubber slicing through puddles, spraying arcs of dirty water that slap against parked cars. A bus rolls past, heavy, the vibration rumbling up through the floor and into my shoes. Somewhere, a baby cries, sharp, stuttering, then is hushed by a voice too soft to cut through the noise. My mind continues to catch every sound, every movement... just like it always does.

The shuffling sound grows closer by the second. My heart hammers in my chest erratically, fear clutching at my body and keeping me locked into place where I sit. A rancid smell gets stronger the closer the shuffling gets to my place on the floor, the scent choking me as I struggle not to breathe in the terrible smell unsuccessfully. I slowly lift my hand to my face and pinch my nose shut with my fingers as I cover my mouth with the palm of my open hand. The shuffling sound suddenly stops as a grinding noise replaces the sound. The shuffling grows louder and more hurried as it scurries back to whatever corner it came from, but not quick enough.

Am I sweating? Oh God, I think I'm sweating. Why the fuck am I breathing so loud? Do I have a booger up my nose or what because I swear it sounds like a whistle? No ways, there's no way that I have a booger up there, I just took a shower and made sure I thoroughly cleaned myself. For crying out loud, I even blew my nose. Oh God, I hope I brushed my teeth properly and none of them are a little bit yellow or worse...bad breath.
