High Pitched Noise When Blowing Nose Romane & Geschichten

IVY I had a smile on my face and a pep to my step for reasons I couldn't even explain. It continued that way until I turned the corner, and the first stench of bullshit hit my nose. Thick and so repugnant, it made my nose flare, and unflare in milliseconds. “You!” The voice pierced through my pinna, almost tearing my ear drums. A perfect description for it would be utter noise pollution, and when I lifted my head, I understood why.

My legs swing left and right like a pendulum as the man marches towards what sounds like a building. The sound of glass doors sliding open and a burst of cool air hits my body. There is loud chattering in the building and their voices bounce off the floor and walls. The smell of an overpowering smell too. A mixture of antiseptic, chlorine, mops that have not been washed for too long and a faint undercurrent of sweat and stale second-hand cigarette smoke hit my nostrils. And I sneeze. I fucking sneeze. Suddenly, the whole room comes to a standstill. Anyone who was moving stops, and the whole room becomes so silent you can hear a pin hit the floor.

Everyone except for Violet, who just stood off to the side watching me in my uncomfortable state. I wish she would come help me. I hesitantly take the straw from Zac's hand, having my body tremble involuntarily as I lean my body over and place it to my nose. I suck in a sharp breath of air in preparation before squeezing my eyes shut as I quickly snort the powder. I feel my eyes beginning to water as I feel each particle fall to the back of my throat, leaving me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I immediately bring my hands up to my nose as I attempt to rub out the very foreign sensation lingering in my right nostril

I stuck my finger in my ear and shook it, trying to get it out but after a few moments, it was gone. I took in a deep breath and began to concentrate again, but it wasn't long until that pestering noise returned. I tried to ignore it but eventually, it became too distracting. I let out an aggravated groan and went on a mission to track it down. The closer I got, the more abhorrent the noise became. An uncontrollable shudder crept up my spine the same way as when someone scraped their nails against a rough surface. I shook my head and shoulders as the sound grew louder and realized it was man-made. It was an instrument of some sort, but it was so god awful it was hard to tell what kind.

I close my eyes and allow myself to relax, and I hope that the pain will ease soon. Bzzzz Bzzzz, I hear the noise but turn around, feeling lightheaded. I reposition myself with one hand under my pillow and the other on the side when I hear the same noise again Bzzzz Bzzzzz again. Christ. What is that? My phone.

All of them turn their heads toward it. "Shit,shit!" I swear, covering my mouth with my hands and holding my breath. My heart is beating too fast. All of a sudden, now, something awful rises into my nose. I feel the urgent need to sneeze. My muscles tighten as I force myself to hold still. "Relax, hold it in... please. Just a few more minutes," Miles whispers, smoothing my back.

And I would be free. I leaned forward a little more, phone raised, trying to get a better angle without being seen. My nose started tingling. No. Not now. I tried to hold it back, pinching my nose desperately, but the dust from the hallway or the sudden rush of nerves betrayed me. “Achoo!” The sneeze escaped before I could stop it. It wasn’t loud, but in the sudden heavy silence that followed Henry’s shouting, it might as well have been a gunshot.

It didn't take a while before the pain between my legs kicked in. "Mommy!" It came out soundless but sharp, straight from my heart. My hands that ran down my lower region froze when I met the stunned faces of the people glancing at the same direction as me, and when I followed their gaze, struggling to get a view too, I sneezed. Hard. A thick mucus jumped off my nose, and while I blew more off with something, not sure what it was because my mind was in several places at once. "Chosan…!"
