"Louis is going to be pissed." Lorenzo didn't slow down. "Not a word. I need to settle this quickly, and then I'll be back in bed enjoying the attention showered on me by my husband." Anya's lips twitched. "Not exactly husband." Lorenzo shot her a look but didn't respond. They entered the building, the lobby cold and sterile. Anya pressed a series of buttons on the elevator panel…a sequence that only someone with clearance would know. The elevator descended, floor by floor, until it stopped at a level that didn't exist on any public map.

Elara turned toward the heavy mahogany doors at the far end of the deck. She smoothed the front of her tailored navy blazer, her hand lingering for a fraction of a second over the small, silver-weighted stylus in her pocket a tool that could write code or, in an emergency, sever a carotid artery. The doors didn't just open; they were pushed aside with a casual, terrifying strength.

It was a folding elevator. Only a closer look reveals what it really is.

“Let’s just toss the traumatized werewolf into a Disney villain tower.” I followed the glowing arrow on my pad to a sleek obsidian elevator tucked into the base of the tower. There were no buttons, just a swirling rune on the wall. The moment my palm hovered near it, the elevator whooshed open and welcomed me with a gust of cool, magically scented air. Inside, a soft voice whispered, “Isandra Haddock. Top floor access. Welcome home.” I blinked. “Home? I barely know my name.” The doors shut, and I ascended like a gothic Rapunzel in a malfunctioning fairytale.
