A mix of hardcovers and leather - bound journals, yellowed at the edges. One smelled like cloves and mildew. Another had pages stuck together with something she didn't want to name. She set them aside, one by one, cataloging quietly. Piper — cat, queen, bookstore menace — stalked over the counter like she owned it and plopped herself on the pile.

"Stay alert." He warned. Everyone instinctively spread out, though not far enough to lose sight of one another. The library was very large, rows upon rows of towering bookshelves stretched into the darkness, packed with ancient leather-bound books whose spines had long since faded. Some of the books on the shelves had been there for ages, the old books were already falling apart with dust all over it. It smelled of old parchment, candle wax and damp stone. Zara ran her fingers lightly across one of the shelves. "No dust."

Mare was among these ones. Without knowing it, she took a step toward the shelves and stepped behind one of them. The books on the shelf were leather-bound. I trailed my fingers through the shelves. It was dirty, dust had covered most of the books. I saw my favourite chair sitting in the far end of the room. It looked to be in the same position that I left it months ago. It was weird. Didn't it suggest that no one had been in here since I left?

Only it wasn’t a library anymore. The shelves were gone, stripped away so completely it was hard to imagine they’d ever been there. The walls stood bare and tall, reaching up into shadow like they were trying to flee. The warm, papery smell of old books was replaced by something sharper, choking. Incense.
