Prologue Daniel's POV I went on with my life, not expecting even a tiny bit of happiness to find me, I was just living under the dark side of life. Killing, hunting monsters. No happiness, not even love. Nothing could reach my frozen soul. That is, if I had a soul.

Alistair crouched beside me and brushed a loose strand of hair away from my face. “Before you convince yourself that you know him,” he said quietly, “understand this. Hunter is a devil. He feels no pity for anyone, he cares about no one. To him, everything is a game…. And that includes you.” My lips trembled.

Her eyes lit up as she saw them. "Yes, they are. Do you read those kinds of books?" Hunter asked, glancing at the books and then at Aleah’s reaction. He had never seen such enthusiasm before. Then again, he wasn't the kind of person who enjoyed socializing. Perhaps that's why he was known as a master tactician and strategist—because of his solitary nature. He spent more time at the camp than at his own home. He didn't have many friends outside the Astral Guardian Camp and was probably closer to his guns than to people.

Hunter enters the room and sees June sitting on the bed surrounded by books. She looked up at him and sat up. "It's a good thing you're back. I have some questions." He began unbuttoning his coat and looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "Go ahead. Ask away." "I want to know about werewolves. You stopped me from picking out that book in the library, and I want to know why." Hunter froze and tilted his head back a bit, looking down his nose at the floor. He slid off his coat and hung it up, its royal blue almost distracting June from keeping eye contact.

What kind of man was it who would leave his own child to fend for himself all his life and not even bother to say a few good words? He straightens. "Doesn't matter right now. What matters is I've read about this in my father’s bestiary. The far-shelf books, the ones he calls a waste of paper because they're not local. Small. After that, a different kind of satisfaction came across me. I enjoyed hunting these human hunters, thus, killing 10 werewolves and being the youngest and best werewolf hunter. Rendall killed 8 werewolves which are also not that bad, Quinn is setting poisonous traps and putting some on the bows granting her 4 kills.
