Author|~S.Y VIOLET When I was a little girl, my mother used to tell me stories about monsters. She used to say ‘ Sleep or a monster will come to take you. ’ I never slept after hearing that though. The mention of a monster coming to get me and the thought of being asleep when he might come, made me jump out of bed and be on my guard.

That brought me to the next set of confusing questions. Was I willing to state that Dacre and Silas were the ones who were after the girl? What about the monster I had seen? Would anybody believe me? For a long time, we had been told that monsters didn’t exist and that the last monster or whatever it was to have walked this planet had been eradicated. The younger generation didn’t know much about it and we were forbidden to even speak about it. Why? We were not sure. But sometimes, I felt that the thought slipped out of my mind even before it would be formed.

A perfect combination of doom if you ask me. I should be hiding under my bed, that’s what a genius would have done. That’s what Aunt Tilda always taught us. ‘Whatever they tell you about monsters is complete and utter lies. A monster will do evil and survive. A monster won’t perish just because the Goddess loves good people and she protects them from evil. Being good won’t kill the monster so next time you see one, you hear one, what do you do? That’s right, little ones, you hide. Hide!’

Children ran knocking on doors and calling out to those within to come and see. “Are you here to kill the monsters, Lady?” A bright-eyed urchin asked me. “Monsters?” The bearded man perked up. “More than one?” A crowd of villagers formed around us, and the story was spilled out from many voices. Something that dwelt in the sand hills around the villages of the area, that rose unpredictably to eat man or beast. They had become trapped within the small area of their fields and villages, and the monsters grew bolder, coming closer in search of prey. They feared it was just a matter of time until they were attacked within village and home.

I picked up my pace to the haunted place I was forced to call home . My mom had died when I was 15, Belle was only 11 at that time. And just when I thought things couldn't get worse ,our dad married again . At first I thought that maybe Belle and I could find comfort in her , that she would at least try to be good to us , but my worse fears came true .

The little girl gasped and tried to speak while crying and said, "They want to take me to the monster." sera muttered to herself: Her family must have been intimidating her into listening to what they were saying. Moms and dads are really weird. sera gave her a beautiful smile and said, "Don't worry, there's no such thing as a monster at all, little girl. Your dad and your mom were just joking around with you no more, so stop crying and don't worry, I'm safe here." The child looked at her as she was trying to wipe her tears and said childishly: You don't know the monster. He is here and every year he takes a child to eat and there is a woman who told me that he will take me this year to eat

It was all over the news, so it seemed weird to have gone unnoticed, but no one could explain where they'd come from or why they were attacking us. That was the day I had lost everything. The monsters started appearing everywhere. They attacked our neighbors' houses without warning. Some died, some ran away, others hid inside. I tried to get my family out of the house too, but I was a child and there was nowhere left to run. We ended up barricading ourselves inside our home. There was nothing else we could do. But then the monsters came. They were big, really, really big. Maybe three times the size of a human—but I think they looked even bigger because of how small we were compared to them.
