“It’s okay, I just said, my voice sounding hoarse for some reason. “I still remember when you asked me to buy that Jaguar for him” he continued, and I leaned on the wall beside the door. “You called and I was gonna scold you for running off to Hawaii without telling anyone and you just sent me on an errand” he laughed, but I could tell he was on the brink of tears too. *flashback* “You’re a hard woman to find Devonne” He said and I chuckled. “Oh you know these things, I was craving for the sunny beaches of Hawaii, go get my brother a car Nathan, a Jaguar, there’s this particular type he likes so much, I don’t even know the name” I muttered towards the end.

The crowd roared again making my body twitch in excitement. Taking a step closer, I saw his face filled with scars. I heard Tim whisper softly as he stood next to me. I looked up at him with a look of shock before Tim chuckled and said loudly, "Alright, alright! Let's not tease the poor kid." Everyone shushed each other before Tim continued by saying, "He may be our newest recruit but he is definitely turning out to be a true contender!" Everyone then stands up as they clapped before Tim grabbed a drink from the table that was placed by the waitress and said, "Let's hear it for Jake!"

I reached for my water, my eyes tracking the way his throat bobbed when he swallowed. "Is that a crime?" "You don't eat here," he rasped, finally lifting his head. Those green eyes were blown out, the pupils swallowing the iris until they were almost entirely black. "You eat... there." He gave a sign vaguely toward the center of the room where the team was staring at us like we had both grown second heads. "I eat where I want," I replied. I took a bite of my sandwich, watching him. "Why are you sitting in the dark? You like being a ghost?"

my gut has never failed me. "I think we should go," I murmur and, at the same time, the door opens and Matthias Volkanov appears, flanked by two bodyguards. The look on the older man's face is carefully blank, but he looks haggard. Not like the man I remember. His dark hair is threaded with silver and his dark eyes look dull. The suit he's wearing hangs loosely on him and the dark circles under his eyes speak louder than words.
